Drop still routinely gives me no reason to give them money. God knows where that slashed out original price came from.
I'm pretty sure that "shine through material" is just a fraction of a cent's worth of epoxy dabbed on the inside of the keycap. Not exactly a difficult fix, though you would have to spend ~$5 on a tube of the stuff if you don't already have any.
scleroidTry it out and let me know. Getting stuff in there cleanly without uneven layers ( which affects how the lighting shines through) and filled flush to the surface when using other fillers didn’t work out well when I tried, not sure about epoxy.
As a person who cooks a lot, I appreciate quality stainless steel utensils as much as the next guy, but seriously--how can a whisk that small be of any use at all?!
i bought these https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32813497014.html (just the QWER ASDF) for $17.71 in 2017. i guess they cost double now because of tariffs? the keys (i use) show no discernable wear. i do wish the F had a homing dot on it, though. i thought i'd just locate the steel keys with my fingertips via temperature, but when your hands are cold, that's unreliable.
i do wish i could (inexpensively) get a full keycap set in steel. i like the look and the heft. shine-through is ookaaayy.
(i only used 2 of them; AF is what i named this keebo, which is https://drop.com/buy/z70-mechanical-keyboard)
exitjonesIt looks very much like the photos on AliExpress. Bear in mind, though, that some people have claimed that the plating wears off and then it looks very ugly. Google "metal keycaps wear" and see the entries on reddit.
However, those were WASD keycaps, heavily used in gaming, and the post dates back to 2014. So it's possible that the current batches have fixed that problem. I haven't seen many posts about this, so it may have been fixed.
I've been looking into possible ways to provide an extra protective coating, just in case.
Cerakote would be nice, but getting it done professionally would be expensive. Buying a tin of transparent Cerakote would be cheaper, but making a smooth even surface could be tricky. Fortunately I have plenty of keycaps to practice on! Of course I'd use cheap plastic ones before risking the metal caps.
There are other possibilities too, but I don't want to speculate too much just yet. :)
In any case, these keycaps give a very satisfying 'thonk' when pressed. I put some of them on on Kailh Box Navies, and the sound was just wonderful. My current build has a thick brass plate, so I expect it to sound even better when it's done - which could be a while since I've been doing it for over six months already.
Hi, pretty nice looking, but i would rather prefer a full keycaps set, i always have been wondering if there are advantages, above to the clear of material talking of durability, about the feeling, is better than PBT/ABS or just different?
And another question, i can't find what kind of profile this keycaps are, could anyone here please provide me this information?
Thank you very much in advance and sorry for the inconveniences.
Bests ^^.
Takuyahaving metal keycaps or doubleshot pbt should last a lifetime as long as the build quality is good and it says on the page it is cherry mx profile
