Just to be clear, in case some people don't know, it is not legal to sell tritium in the US. You can purchase it from outside the US, and you can own/carry it. As a company, you cannot sell it. People selling it on Amazon are doing so illegally, and Amazon will pull the listings off occasionally once they find them. In fact, they sometimes pull our products off their site just because we use the word "tritium" in the description., which leads to a month-long effort to get them re-listed.
This was the worst. I tried to buy 2 from tritiumkeychains.com in the beginning of November. Two months later they refunded me because they got lost between Singapore and the USA. You may as well just buy them from China on eBay. This was the dumbest purchase I could have made on here. Here it is, 2 months later, and I still can't use these little fobs for anything. I wish I could return them.
I would love to buy the vials directly from an American supplier that has them on hand. I would prefer not to have to deal with someone who is a middle man shipping from overseas. The wait time is frustrating and the international shipping is unreliable. Although you personally are professional and polite, per our emails, I don't enjoy working within your business model.
So, none of these products contain ANY glowing materials at all, just the shell? The chain reaction's description makes it seem like it includes an embrite pellet.
Yes to both. Tritium isn’t “rechargeable” and it eventually gets dimmer. But keep in mind that the radioactive half life of tritium is something like 12.5 years. So in practical terms, that means you could keep a vial tucked away from all sources of light for a decade and it would still retain over half the brightness it had when new.
Major_InfidelTo clarify: this breakdown happens at the same rate whether you use it or not. So, by 12.3 years you have gently declined to 50% emission and by 24.6 years, you have 25% emission. Now the brain is a funny thing (just like the science of illumination): we adapt to tiny changes and most people are perfectly fine for 15 or 20 years (unless they develop cataracts). This is borne out by the two generations of people who had radium (early) or tritium (more recent) 'lume' on their watch-hands and -faces. Another thing is that the perception of brightness is not a linear relationship to emission. For instance, it may take 4 times the emission for you to perceive a doubling in brightness. Because of this effect, a halving of the emission over 12.3 years is not noted as a halving of the brightness. As an aside, ANY radiation (in this case 'alpha') is blocked by the thin glass of the vial so no worries there!
[edit: I'm willing to give more (and more exact) detail but this stuff is a lot more fun to write than it is to read! The takeaway message is that it'll safely work for years and years and you will move on and enjoy your life and I bet most of us will lose them before they cease pleasing us. :) ]
You have no real reason to believe a stranger on the internet, but I have to agree with other posters who are recommending Mixglo.com. I've ordered from them on 4 occasions and have gotten my package exactly 1 week later (from overseas to California) each time. The person who runs the website was very responsive in e-mails, and even hand-wrote me a note in the first package I ordered (along with including a free titanium key ring). I'd really recommend them for tritium products.
