I, too, have had a larger Moccamaster with the thermal carafe. I've used it nearly every day for more than a decade. I have never found that the thermal carafe works as well as my trusty Thermos at keeping the coffee hot, so I second the motion of just pouring the hot coffee into a Thermos.

BrianthI drink the coffee so fast, it's seldom an issue. The problem with thermal carafes, is that the top opening is narrow making it difficult to thoroughly clean the inside, and you can't run them through the dishwasher. I've had both configurations and prefer the hot plate. Agreed, if you need to store a quantity of brewed coffee, dump it in a thermos.
