The key to making a good cup of coffee is time and temperature. Thanks to extensive research and testing, the folks over at Technivorm have created a device for both Read More
I got the CDG Model here a few weeks ago and it arrived damaged. It has been such a pain to deal with. There are these little plastic bits that hold the brew basket in place. They arrived broken off so in order to make a cup of coffee, I had to hold the brew basket in place the entire time that it is brewing.
I contacted Massdrop, who passed the buck onto Technivorm. Technivorm wouldn't send me a replacement but offered to send me a replacement part which I would have to repair myself and buy tools to make the repair myself.
I was super annoyed just by the principle that they sent me this broken ass coffee maker and want me to waste my time and money to fix it.
I was able to brew a cup of coffee on this thing and it was awesome. I decided to play ball since I got a good deal and agreed to this ridiculous proposition.
I got the part (with no instructions at all) and after much incompetence on Technivorm's part, I get the repair made. Now, I realize that there might be another problem with this thing as it seems like some water stays in the coffee maker after I brew a pot of coffee.
So, here I am, dealing with Technivorm again. I really wish I didn't buy this thing and I am going to think twice before getting fragile stuff on Massdrop again.
They get one extra star for the good coffee.
bjaworskiJust an update about the water thing. Technivorm eventually responded to me after some nudging and apparently it's normal for there to be 2 ounces of water in this thing after brewing. If you use it every day it's not a problem but you can tip the machine upside down to empty it out. So I guess I have a working coffee maker now. It just took some extra time, expense and a bad taste in my mouth about dealing with this company.
sunsyncTechnivorm will honor their 5 year warranty on any brewer purchased through Massdrop. As demollator stated, they are built to last, so I would not be overly concerned with any broken parts. They gave me a run through of all of the components at IHA this year and it is a very well thought out design.
I own this machine as glass bowl version, which is imho much prettier, allthough the thermos version is more praktical. The manufacturer does a great job, the copper heating element fills the whole part of the machine on the left side and will probably work for decades. You can get every little spare part from Technivorm. As they do not have photos of the heating element on their webside, here are some photos from the inside of the machine at Manufactum, Germany:
