Based in Driggs, Idaho, and surrounded by some of the world’s best trout rivers and streams, Tenkara Rod Co. makes products for tenkara anglers of all levels. A Japanese style of fly fishing that’s been around for hundreds of years, Tenkara (literally “from heaven”) gets a contemporary interpretation in the Sierra—the lightweight, flexible 10-footer the company calls one of its most fun rods.
Note: This package includes everything you need to start fly fishing right out of the box, including a rod, swivel tips, line, spool, and three hand-tied flies.
At 10 feet long and just 2.8 ounces, the Sierra is built for navigating small rivers, streams, and tight spots where casting can be difficult. It provides soft, flexible action with excellent feel throughout its entire length, and because it won’t tangle easily and requires no reel, it’s a great rod to learn on. The carbon of the rod has been upgraded, as has the cork of the handle, and it now has a matte finish. The 10.5-foot line allows you to keep the rod tip high and your line off the water for maximum precision. When the day is done, the seven sections collapse to 20 inches for convenient travel.
All lines from Tenkara Rod Co. are handcrafted using a single-strand, non-tapered construction and a 3-millimeter alloy tippet ring. The line spool is designed specifically for tenkara rods, and is just big enough to make winding your line simple and quick. Plus, it floats! The notches make it easy to attach flies, while the foam core helps dry your line if necessary.
