There have been some reports of electrical shorts when using this case with some keyboards or keyboard kits. It was recommended to use a dielectric material to avoid this problem. Does anyone have specific recommendations of materials to use and how to apply or install in the case?
just66inI had this happen with an Infinity. It is an easy fix, you just put some drawer liner in there and it is fine. I used it that way for quite some time without any issues. The liner also helps reduce the ping that the aluminum case creates. I didn't have this issue with my poker, or with my V60. I also think they resolved this issue with the latest rev of the Infinity PCB.
InanisThanks Inanis for clarifying this. On the other hand, you mentioned that the drawer liner reduces the ping that aluminum cases creates. I've sold my pok3r mainly because the spacebar gives me this problem when compared to the poker 2, both equipped with the cherry mx red switches. By fitting this on my poker 2, will this pinging noise be inherited?
just66inWell, it is aluminum, so there is going to be some reverberation, which in turn creates a ping noise. However, I used an aluminum case of some variety for over a year and I can tell you that as long as I included a layer of drawer liner the ping was basically non-existent. I also typically keep my board flat on the desk, with just the small bumpons attached. That helps deaden the noise a bit since there is less room between the board and my desk to amplify it. Really the liner helps the most, I wouldn't use an aluminum case with out it.
It could be that the ping you were hearing was related to the spring more than the case, in which case lube would help. Not so easy to lube a spring on a Poker though, unless you desolder the switch. I wish more "off the self" boards had plates that supported switch top removal. Once you have a board with the ability to do that, dealing with ones that don't is just frustrating.
