I've got a pair of these. It is less bassier (mid-bass) than the original Series 1. The sound signature is sweet and warm, female vocal is good but lacked a little definition. Compared to SE215, The 1S sounds a lot less constricted, compared to the veiled sounding SE215. Not wide sounding nor narrow, it is just average. The separation is pretty good. I would recommend JVC Spiral Dots tips with these, it really helps with the treble extension. Adding a little spark to the treble end resulting in a little fun signature that is not fatiguing. They are somehow source dependent. I'm satisfied with its performance when paired with a Fiio X3 and Ipod g4. Meanwhile somehow lackluster while my laptop as the source. Overall its a worthy purchase, yet almost close to a giant-killing offer.

PsychoactiveI have a set myself, and my impressions are very similar.
I think that, given the price range and the fairly hefty tilt towards bass (un-coloured and analytical these are not), the mid range, layering, and timbre of sounds is all rather impressive. I'd buy them again at $40, less than that is an easy yes.

ajaxender12Exactly. i can listen to them for several hours without fatigue considering the sound is really warm even with correct tips to bring out the highs. Additionally what makes me fond of the Series 1S its the separation and the layering done well. They might sound warm but definitely not muddy; just lacked of a little more definition on the detail. Well, they are not meant to be analytical afterall. :P

smallbitsadly I prefer a bit of a low-bass or sub-bass emphasis to mid-bass and not much gear is like that while retaining a good mid range. Almost none at all, really. I'm using tx2's right now and they are decent but do have the mid-bass emphasis. certainly not bad.

Uzuzuif you can get yourself a hand of VSonic GR07 bass edition, it has one of the best low ive heard. Well extended sub-bass without the huge emphasis on mid bass. my $0.20. In addiction, I have tried to use comply foam tips with the 1S. Well it tamed down the mid-bass also doesn't add much of spark in the treble region compared to the spiral dots tips. It is certainly a lot more pleasant to listen to some of my tracks. (Instrumental/acoustic pop) However, it does reduce the wideness of soundstage, the isolation as well as the depth of the timbre. For my taste, its tonality is a no-go for me mostly, but it might appeal someone more inclined to balanced listening.

Psychoactivenice. you know I sort of wrote off the gr07s. But even sub bass can get fatiguing after a while, or annoying when it's overly present in tracks where it shouldn't be. Isn't the gr07 a bit v shaped though? Still I'm also heavily addicted to the mid range--probably more so than treble sparkle or that low end people crave. While I like some good sub-bass I also want a full mid range. Basically impossible though or I don't know an iem that exists that is like that.

PsychoactiveI got the original series 1 in clear red/blue.. Would these be any better or is it just the mid-bass that is different? I can see the cord on my original is standard while these are twisted clear cable. Let me know,,

ZachLI wouldn't say the 1S is better; the sound signature is a little different but compare to the sound they are definitely in the same league. The series 1 has heavier mid-bass sometimes I personally couldn't stand that it would bleed into the mid on some tracks of mine, yet I didn't find that happening on the 1S. The 1S also has much better treble extension but the detail is the same. Female vocal is a lot intimating on the series 1 compared to 1s, must be difference on the tuning of midrange. And yes, the 1S has silver plated copper twisted wire. Resulting in a more clean/precise listening overall. Meanwhile the series 1 is more fun listening to.
