What would be a good portable Dac/Amp to use with my HD6xx and Sony Xperia 1 V cell phone?
I am new to this hobby. I purchased a HD6XX and plan to use it with my Sony Xperia 1 V cell phone, that has a 3.5mm jack. I was wondering if I needed a portable dac/amp or just a portable amp and if so what would one recommend? Any assistance one could provide, would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Haz

those 6 people, you BALLIN!
Thanks for your thoughts!
We'll do our level best to ensure it was not misplaced.
There's something to be said about being an early adopter, appreciating simplicity of visual design as well as circuit design, and supporting a novel idea with a great story. And most of the people who are buying this amp aren't looking at Schiit stacks and O2 amp/DAC combos. I mean, I'm feeding mine from a Chord DAVE, and the EMAC is going to power Utopias, HE1000 V2's, MDR-Z1R's, Eikons, and HD800's. At some level of audiophilia, you're willing to accept some risk and the fact that you can't test everything out because almost no one has your exact audio chain.
And it looks frickin' awesome.
i stopped at hd650's.
this is from a guy who started with a sennheisser hd555 just because they were on sale. by mistake i got into amp/dacs and some entry level audiophile headsets.
but at some point i had to put the brakes. I did own a pair of hd700 + schiit valhalla. One thing i noticed, is that it wasn't that much of an upgrade vs hd650 + schiit stack. so i quickly sold off the combo and decided to stay with hd650, and even these weren't that much better than hd598 they replaced. The diminishing returns is what killed it for me.
That said, the HD700 is kind of like the red-headed stepchild of the Sennheiser family. Most people prefer the HD6x0 series or the HD800 +/- S models. YMMV, but the audio world definitely gets better than the 700. Whether or not it's worth it to you to spend the money for it though is a completely different question.
