Mayhap this was answered in the previous 54 pages but if someone might indulge me for lack of a search function...
I notice that this board/kit is cited as being LED compatible and the DIY/Assembled version comes with white LEDs. Would it be possible to configure (or mod perhaps, with the new Cherry MX RGB LED backlighting? Is there a reason such an option isn't present here?
Thanks.

RanceCherry RGB is exclusively licensed with Corsair IIRC. Its basically a cherry with clear housing (ironically gateron cases are translucent by default) + smd led on the board + chip to control each individual led. The last part is the most difficult as a new pcb design is needed among other things. R&D on pcb alone will cost $100+ per custom one off if you order from a US company. You will also need to source chips that can handle the task of individually controlling color of each led.
I'm planning on doing sip socket mod myself so led are hot swappable. Its a cheaper route and quicker route. I don't plan on swapping leds all the time so its a nice alternative. The down side is the colors are limited to a few colors unlike V70.
tldr: its way too expensive and time consuming to make it work. Do sip sockets if you want variation of colors.

RanceRGB LEDs would have added complexity, the switch options would have been lower, the cost would have been substantially higher. Ultimately I preferred to keep it simpler.
