For the price of this you can get half a dozen of direct SATA to USB adapters. https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-SATA-Drive-Adapter-Cable/dp/B00HJZJI84/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1480534820&sr=8-3&keywords=usb+sata+adapter
Also, these docks are purely for rescuing data or taking data off of camcorders and such(who sometimes use sata ssds). This is not usable for running your spare drives off of as they are not being cooled and can get very hot, since the drives are run constantly and at full power. Also good for making coldstorage backups of your data.

RunawayThere is no way cooling is going to be an issue. Simply being in open air is enough. The drives are dissipating maybe 10W worth of power

TwistedKestrelMost external drives run in excess of 40°C and those have special controllers to downspeed and save power when the drives are not used. Most of these docks do not have such capabilities and thus run past 60°C, warmer than my radiator. They won't melt, but excess heat is not good for a drives longevity.

RunawayI've had a blacx for many years. Heat is not an issue. There's no difference between this and drive in a case, other than the fact that the case is hotter. And given that many cases use Silicon grommets to dampen vibrations, the idea that the tray actsnas anyway sink is also false.
