Mine bought from last drop, arrived 4 days before the estimated shipping date. Kudos toThinkSound and MD for super fast service. Potential buyers be warned, the actual color of the earcups may not be as pretty as those photos on MD. My pair came in semi-gloss brown and one earcup is darker than the other cup. Apart from the wooden cups and very nice cables, the head band is another story, quite pedestrian looking and not so impressive quality in this price range. Zoom in the attached photos to see what I mean, especially the plastic part. The headband fabric material absorbs dust quite easily. I personally prefer to have the a plain headband without the thinksound and it's logo since the earcups already have it engraved on them. Something like Fostex cans would definitely look nicer.
Thanks for the response on this and we are sorry you feel that way about the headband. Please remember the fostex headphones are triple the cost as the thinksound so there will be a slight difference in build parts. We do our best to match the wood color and if it is not up to your expectations we are willing to look at it. If you have any issues please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
The pair in the Massdrop pics look really nice. Probably a prime sample.
While I'm satisfied with my pair, it also had a quirk: the grain on one cup was straight, running from front to back. The grain on the other cup also had the grain running from front to back. But it had curved grain, bowed up like an arc, and then back down again.
The combination looks imperfect, but I'm happy with them otherwise.
We do our best to match wood grain as best as possible from the 2 ear cups but we cannot be exact as they do come from real trees and no 2 are alike. If there are any defects feel free to contact us at email@example.com. Enjoy your headphones!
your company makes great products but they are all missing in some respect some attributes that would make them bigger hits. In this case it's aesthetics. The cups just look like the tops of armchairs from the 90's and the headband has that "burlap sack" look going in. You guys are great engineers but we need a kingly can from you ;-)
The wood that we choose is chosen first based on acoustic properties and if it is from an FSC certified source. The problem is that with a lot of wood out there that you may thinks is 'beautiful' is coming from irresponsible sources or endangered species. I appreciate your input and believe me we always are looking for changes.
perhaps but I wasn't talking about the color or grain. More like the finish and shape.
Nice round earcups with great yokes, folds up small. The finish reflects some light, but it's not shiny. I like it.
