What is it about the black edition that makes it double the price?

PaddyFrom the Kickstarter project page:
"A black anodized version of the Ti2 (including the tip). "Bio-Black" by Tech Metals Inc. is a proprietary process of black anodizing for titanium used in the medical industry. Here is more information on the "Bio-Black" black Titanium anodizing by Tech Metals Inc. http://www.techmetals.com/BioBlack-Titanium-Blackening-Cleaning-Process.aspx "
So it might be costly simply because it is proprietary, or it might be proprietary because it's a costly process with unique and desirable results.

dag.odenhallI bet they treat the Titanium like Aluminum, and that is the outcome. I should try it on my stuff. Its funny they said "it does provide anti corrosion protection"

Tactical_KeychainsNo, titanium is corrosion resistant – BioBlack provides protection against *anti*-corrosion i.e. it causes corrosion! ;-)

dag.odenhallDag -- The Black Editions are PVD coated. The Bio-Black was a route we initially we're going but consistency was an issue for TechMetals. Unfortunately kickstarter does not allow the project page to be altered after the project has been funded.
Here's an explanation of the PVD process from our coating house "Physical Vapor Deposition, or PVD, is a term used to describe a family of coating processes. The most common of these PVD coating processes are evaporation (typically using cathodic arc or electron beam sources), and sputtering (using magnetic enhanced sources or "magnetrons", cylindrical or hollow cathode sources). All of these processes occur in vacuum at working pressure (typically 10-2 to 10-4 mbar) and generally involve bombardment of the substrate to be coated with energetic positively charged ions during the coating process to promote high density. Additionally, reactive gases such as nitrogen, acetylene or oxygen may be introduced into the vacuum chamber during metal deposition to create various compound coating compositions. The result is a very strong bond between the coating and the tooling substrate and tailored physical, structural and tribological properties of the film. "
I see that it's on the drop page copy -- moderators... can you please correct with the below copy?
Gonzodized -- A unique method of anodizing developed by fellow KS creator Brad Martin. The result is a unique 2 tone Blue/Gold Patina that beautifully evolves with wear. ** finish may vary slightly
Black Edition -- PVD (physical vapor deposition) method offers a deep black DLC (diamond like coating) finish. ** finish may vary slightly
