Anyone notice that the TW2R96400VQ Chronograph (the chrono with the pale dial) is the only one that is not available for preorder? Am I missing something?

For those not in the know, the ‘loud’ ticking is a feature, not a bug, of timex 3 hand watches. “Takes a licking and keeps on ticking”. I’m sure today that kind of statement would be considered sexual assault. Plastic cases will be the loudest, old brass case models would be the quietest. Larger (43mm & up) will have a plastic movement holder which helps to mute the sound. Smaller cases in steel (40mm & under) will be the loudest. Since the ticking is caused via the seconds stepper motor, you won’t have to worry about it as much in the chrono/small second models. Another fun fact is that Timex was originally Waterbury clock company. That company produced a pocketwatch named after PT Barnum’s elephant Jumbo - which attracted the attention of a guy named Ingersoll. Yes, that Ingersoll - known around here as the sidepiece when Drop’s main squeeze Glycine is too busy making Invicta’s watches to pick up the phone. While the Ingersoll wood box company you all know and love was technically the Ingersoll, Ltd that was sold off to the British after the Great Depression, it still traces its roots back to the good ol’ USA. In conclusion, take your $44-$54 and buy a square g-shock off Amazon. Thank you for attending my timex ted talk.

Watchyoutalkingabout The hell with those digital g-shocks--they don't tick! Buy the damn Timex (my preference is the chronograph) because as I've often said: "Chicks dig a guy who ticks!"

RayFLeo and I have one thing and only one thing in common - Neither of us will ever date a woman older than 29. Search enough on ebay and you can find the old model timex for sale, but be prepared to shell out an additional 25-50 for a replacement module.

The chrono versions have time-seconds in the sub-dial and are quiet. Full-size second hand Timex watches are very loud. It may not bother you (it doesn't bother me) but you have been warned. Even the black dial versions have Indiglo, it's a neat dark-purple glow. None of these have lume. Even though it looks like they do, it's just non-lume paint. I *might* be wrong, my experience is on a MK1 aluminum chrono and Easy Reader from a certain large Internet retailer. BTW I really like how the chrono works, with 1/10th of a second in its own sub-dial.

Noisy second hands?!!! That’s a complaint? It’s a sad day when that’s all we can find to complain about—and by the way, I can assure you, the second hand is dead silent. The movement might be loud enough to wake the dead, but second hands don’t make a peep! That nonsense out of the way, this seems like a perfectly good watch at perfectly good price (unless you can find it for less—which I doubt, or you can find someone who ships it faster—which is probably everyone). The only caveat would be some question about the case size; @Leherto says MD is off by two millimeters, and knowing MD as we all do, he’s probably right! So resolving that one way or the other might be in order first. Otherwise, just buy the damn watch ;- ) By the way, per Timex’s site, the case size IS 40mm, not 42mm, which is odd because it’s typically men who are inclined to exaggerate dimensions, not women, like the gals who run this department, and who continue to post bogus watch specs at damn near every opportunity!

How loud is this watch? I’ve got another timex and the second hand is so loud I can’t even wear it, I have to keep it hidden in a drawer.

Cool thanks! My timex was like $150 and it’s too loud for my wife’s tinnitus.

cadewilson16I had a basic 3-hand Expedition in a drawer that made me feel like I was living in a Poe horror story.

I have the black-on-black chrono, pretty good watch. The curved acrylic crystal gives it a great vintage look! But I see Drop is calling these 42mm, it’s a 40mm, trust me I’ve got one. Oh, and they do have Indiglo.

On some Timex, the battery ca be changed without opening the back case. I guess none of these have that feature?

florincNope, pop-off case back. About what you’d expect with 30m water resistance.
