Toaks Wood Burning Stove with Optional Pot

Took the woodgas to the White Mountains for a wet weekend. Burning wet wood takes practice, but with the abundance of birch bark in the area, i was able to get it going. The hardest part is dealing with the thermal sink that comes when you add more (wet) wood to a thriving fire... it can really hinder the burn.

Never thought of using the crossbars! I'll have to give it a shot!

Glad you found the article useful. Here's my brief take on your points. 1. I wondered how they came up with that as well. Good to hear the fit and assembly were well done. 2. The FireAnt will hold about the same amount of fuel based on the given dimensions. The EmberLit will hold a little more. Because both can be fed from the side and the top you can control the heat. Both will boil 2 cups of water in less than 4 minutes. The ease of carrying them (less space) makes them the most highly prized among my stoves. 3. Since most woodgas stoves are filled with the smallest available wood chunks then lit, maybe that is where they got that idea from. Simmering with wood as fuel is always problematic. Have not seen any stove solve that! Simmering more than doubles our selection of foods that can be made on the trail. Dry or wet baking, rice and pasta sides, dehydrated rather than freeze dried, etc. I enjoy the ambiance of being in the outdoors, slowing down while cooking and more time makes for better meals. 4. Will never understand people complaining about this! Most fuels leave soot. Some fuels, especially paraffin and resinous woods, are more sooty than others. I put the pot and the stove in separate bags and never worry about the soot. 5. Windscreens are always a good idea with small stoves. Had not noticed their dual use of the review - good catch!
