Using the right tools in the kitchen is critical for safety and efficiency. That’s why every Togiharu kitchen knife is cut with a sharp 50/50 grind, suitable for both right- and left-handed users Read More
How are these better than a Tojiro? Same steel, same HRC 61 hardening, also made in Japan, less than half the price. You can get a 9.5 inch Gyutou (chef's knife) for $59 on Amazon. I've used both Tojiros and Shuns, and the Tojiros cut slightly better with the same steel. I doubt the Togiharu provides any gain in performance to justify over double the price.
DraxxionLooks and grip are the only differences I would imagine. Knife grip/comfort is like audio in that it is highly subjective. I prefer the balance and handle on the ikea vorda over the wusthof icon line I just bought a tojiro nakiri (f-502) after looking into japanese cutlery for some time. I bought it for the same reason you mention, great knife at a low price. VG-10, rockwell 60, and quality build for $47 shipped. I have been cooking professionally for 12 years and have had experience with quite a few knives and other kitchen tools fwiw
Massdrop does this all the time(st least I have noticed it quite frequently)...they "inflate" the MSRP on items to make it seem like a better deal than it is....it is getting quite annoying....
Don't! The prices for these knives are incredibly high. I don't know what is massdrop thinking, either they think their clients are stupid or they have no idea of the real prices of what they sell. Anyway, anyone that orders this is not in their right state of mind.

TylerWhy do you guys always inflate the MSRP to make it seem like the deal is better than it is? Routinely I can do a very simple search and find the exact item cheaper than the lowest price here....sometime, cheaper regular price.... then I compare the MSRP to the manufactures site and Massdrops MSRP is usually higher than the manufacturers...how does that work???
Buy at a higher price and wait three times the length for delivery? how is that a good deal?

@thejusc, I'd like to purchase a saya to go with my sujihiki. The Korin website recommends buying them together to ensure fit, or coming in to have the saya fitted to the blade.
NY is rather far from me. What can I do to ensure the saya fits the blade properly?
uberpinguinHi!
That might be a little tricky, but here's what I can do. I can take one of the sujihiki we have and ensure a good fit with a saya before we ship it to you.
If it doesn't fit, you could ship us your knife and the ill fitting saya. I'll replace the saya with one that fits and ship it back.
I understand the delay would be a bit of a hassle, but would that work for you?
