I assume from the name it's a DX format compatible? I would have considered it if it was FX.....

DonVI don't know the Nikon terminology, but the 11-16 is only for Crop bodies. Won't work on a full frame camera. (Or at least the Canon one is only for crop bodies.)

DonVThis lens is designed for cameras with APS-C sensors. Tokina designates the difference with "FX" for Full Frame typically.

DonVYes - I am not sure if DX/FX is purely a "Nikon-ism" as I see it used regularly for lenses in general - but that is in effect what I was getting at - it's for a "C" sensor and not a full-frame camera.
Thanks guys.

greggorievichI have the version I of this lens and use it on my full frame 6D. From what I've read, the version II will also work on a full frame Canon body as well. The caveat is that anything other than shooting at 16mm will give you a vignette. At 11mm there's a black circle around the image.
The version I is a good lens, built like a tank. Edge to edge, mine is decently sharp but the lens does have some CA issues...at least the version I anyway.

CuttoothI seem to recall that being the case for this particular lens yes - though in general it's not that bright to try to use crop lenses on full frame bodies, as you run the risk of the mirror smacking the lens as it goes by. Or at least that's my understanding.

greggorievichYes, for Canon, the EF-S lenses shouldn't be used on FF bodies because those lenses protrude deeper into the camera body and can damage the mirror when the shutter opens and mirror travels to expose the sensor. For this reason, EF-S lenses don't mount on the FF bodies to avoid someone using an EF-S on a FF body by accident.
This particular third party lens will mount and work on FF bodies, though so if anyone is looking for a cheaper alternative to getting the Canon 16-35 2.8L ($1500 for Mk2, $2200 for Mk3) then this could be a good option. You'll just be pretty much using it as a prime lens, shooting at 16mm only, though so keep that in mind. With the $30 rebate from Tokina which makes the cost of the lens $389, this is a good deal.

CuttoothAh! Thanks for clearing up the particulars of that one. I suppose i was wrong to assume that Nikon had the same issue as Canon. Now that you mention it and jogged my memory, I do remember reviews of this lens getting used on full frame bodies.

greggorievichthis lens works fine as a 16mm f2.8 on a nikon full frame, u can even go a bit wider than 16mm but if i remember correctly u get some strong vignetting by 15mm

CuttoothThis lens has had a correction profile in Photoshop/LightRoom for 3+ years. Should be no issue correcting for the vignette in those software packages.
