It is one thing liking a product or two. I happen to quite like the Encores myself and can see why the Katana can appeal to some
Crin has his own views and standpoints and at least from the earlier comments that you’ve made, it seems more than apparent to me that you just dislike the person and was trying to badmouth him
I am all in for disagreements. I’ve had my fair share of disagreements with Crin and for a while Flinkenick as well. It is part of the nature of the hobby as you’ve said so yourself. But it is one thing to blatantly disrespect and badmouth a fellow enthusiast who happens to have a Head-Fi thread
Unlike you, I've actually met Crinacle, and he does take the time to listen to the gear he's talking about. He doesn't rate gear solely based on measurements. He spent nearly an hour listening to my Kinera Idun, after taking the measurement. He also states quite clearly that his ratings are merely a guide, and should not be taken as definitive statements.
Also could you clarify what you mean by "relies on demo units listened to within a store" ?
I own these and highly recommend them. Correct tip selection is a must. Wide bore tips work best in bringing out the full sound. Otherwise, with narrow bores, the sound can be overly dark. They also benefit from a day or two of burn in. Again, they can sound dark when you first get them. I run mine balanced, with a cable provided for me by the seller I got them from in China, run them out of an iBasso DX200 amp8, and an iBasso DX120. They sound great out of each. They are easily worth twice the price being offered here on Massdrop.
brownsoxHaven't heard these, but would guess somewhat of a sidegrade. They seem to have different sound signatures. For the price, I was very surprised by the DMG. The first thing that jumps out at you is the bass. It's a deep nice controlled bass which the DMG an overall warm sound. Treble extension is decent as well with surprisingly good detail retrieval, especially for the price. Signature is V-shaped. The T88K seems to offer a more balanced sound. I think the DM6 would be a better comparison.
brownsoxI have had the DMGs and own now the T88k: these are def. an upgrade
Everything is way more refined and the bass is kept into place. DMG bleeds a lot of bass into the mids on some songs. The controlled bass on the T88k can go very deep if demanded. DMG doesn't block ambient noise much which is in contrast to the T88k, they block like a well fitted custom IEM.
From my experience: A total upgrade but YMMV
Been listening to my T88k's this past week and man do these sound good. My most used IEM prior to this was the Westone UM2's. Those had great bass and instrument separation, but always sounded a little muddier than I would have liked. These offer clear sound, a very natural sound, with a bass that isn't muddied and hits. It has a thump like that of dynamic drivers. Overall the sound is a touch warm, with a treble that is present but doesn't extend too far. At first, it was a tad bright for my sensitive ears, but after a couple of hours, my ears became accustomed to them. I've demoed top of the line iems (SE846, IE800, Zeus XIV) and I would say that these gave me a similar instant "wow" emotion to those other iems.
I was rather surprised by the vent as most pictures I have seen online do not show this feature. The nozzle bores are also not the cleanest as they are pretty inconsistent between the left and the right, but it does not seem to affect the sound.
Don’t know why this isn’t stated in the write-up, but here’s the driver layout (Knowles):
Dual 31618 for the lows
Dual 30265 for the mids
Quad 30017 for the highs
Hi guys. I have the Campfire Audio Jupiter's which I am pretty happy with. Does anyone know how they would compare to these and if these are worth getting on top of the Jup's?
Matt_M_MI’d stick with the Jupiter if you’re happy with them. I haven’t heard the T88k, but I can’t imagine they’d be more than a sidegrade. Don’t get sucked into the driver wars, even if the T88k uses Knowles drivers. You’re better off saving up for the Andromeda if you wanted an upgrade. Keep in mind that at one point the Jupiter was the Campfire Audio flagship and retailed for $899. Even with the Andromeda and other flagship IEMs in my collection the Jupiter still remains one of my favorite IEMs. Unless you’re treble sensitive it’s an amazing IEM and a great value at the current used prices it’s going for ($400).
Matt_M_MI've owned both. I don't own Jupiters anymore. I prefer the sound of the T88ks. Much better bass, equal mids, a bit more restrained treble. I thought that treble was overstated in the Jupiters and spent a lot of $ on tips trying to tone it down.
The cost of the T88K's over the DM6's is significant. The T88K's drivers ae all Knowles from top to bottom & I'm pretty sure the BA's used are superior to what's used in the DM6. Both are in the region where the law of diminishing returns kicks in. Is the T88K worth almost 2X the price of the DM6? Is the DM6 worth almost 2X the price of the DMG?
Like is said, I really enjoy the sound of my DMG's. That's mostly due to those 2 dynamic drivers they use for the bass. Now it's not that I dislike the bass that the P4 Pro produces. It's fine in an $80 IEM. I'm just not sure that I want the same bass in a $175 IEM.
MaverickAHYou have a very valid point. These are almost twice the cost of the DM6. I don’t expect them to sound significantly better. In the end I may find that these are inferior. I liked the DMG a lot from the very first listen. So much so that I sold the FIIO FH5s I had. I’m not yet convinced I’ll like the DM6 over the DMG. I’m still assessing and allowing a little time for break-in. I ordered another DMG because I want a set with balanced cable and one with 3.5mm so I don’t have to swap cables or use an adapter on a couple of my DAPs that don’t have a balanced jack. I think that means I’m committed to this hobby..
I'm curious about these, mainly because they've received many positive reviews. But how do these really compare? To things like etymotics, the massdrop plus? Things like sound signature, soundstage, etc. Mainly looking for something neutral or warm neutral.
The highs are present by not overly so, they roll off after 5-6k I would say (I've heard the hd700 and elex so I'm guessing from my experience here) . Wouldn't call the treble warm but these IEMs can subtle enough if you just lower the volume.
They are balanced well enough (for most genres) that if you fiddle with the volume you should find the ideal level where your music sounds realistic and not harsh at all.
Like others have said, no matter how high I raise the volume I don't hear any sibilance. The worst frequency offenders in the treble have been quelled, but there is definitely some sparkle.
They remind me a bit of the elex but tuned better, the elex is forward even at the 5k mark then begins to Roll off (thus some sibilance) . The T88k I hear a slight mid peak then a cut/valley then another peak in the treble and then a roll off.
Helpbotthe last thing I wanted to point out is that the best feature of these IEMS for the price is definitely the soundstage, which is deep and wide. Sounds constantly begin behind my head, and the depth of the soundstage makes me question if sounds are originating in real life rather than in the Iems. These qualities, paired with the natural/realistic tone of the T88k suspend your belief to the point when you take them off you just want to put them back on!
