These Top Gun nylon bombers are inspired by the official flight jacket worn by US Air Force and Navy pilots and ground crew during the 1950s. Classic details include the leather trim, heavy-duty zipper, and ribbing at the collar, cuffs, and hem Read More
I give up on this drop. I’d love to have a green one but I can’t figure out the sizing. The sizing chart is a joke with measurements way too small for a normal adult.
I read all the comments and people are saying a Medium is way oversized for a 5’10” regular build person. This is very confusing. So a medium for a 23” chest?... is huge for a man most likely with a 46” chest????????
WTF Massdrop?
Not buying because you can’t get your crap together!
So I went to a Taylor to get measured so I could join this drop and when he looked at the sizing chart he said there is something incredibly wrong.
For example. I am a 46” chest but an XL is 25”?
Are these for men or little boys?
Just wanted to say i know nothing about these, but Schott NYC has their wwII commemorative MA-1's for sale at around $90. If you like patches like I do I would check them out. I ordered two days ago and I am already receiving it tonight
DocZZZI got it today and wore it out tonight. I love it. In full disclosure, I am a huge schott fanboy (I own 4 perfectos and 2 a-2 jackets, all leather). It is very light and thin so I was skeptical of the warmth but it did pretty well. The color was also much darker blue than on the website, which i really liked because it is a replica of a 1950's style and only sage and midnight blue were made back then. This jacket is definitely midnight blue. I do not have another ma-1 bomber to compare it to and never wore another.
These jackets may be wonderful too, but if you want an american made jacket and like the patches look......I dont know how you could go wrong.
I’m fairly certain these are bought off taobao and then resold here at a much higher price. This same jacket can be bought off taobao for like <$20 so this is super high priced And looks to be the same quality.
Edtburgtao bao is most likely selling chinese knockoffs hence the price, whereas these seem to be from the name brand Top Gun. Theses bought msrp from the official website range from $180 to $250.
The cheaper bomber jackets are made form thinner, cheaper, less durable materials. Top Gun claims theirs are made with industrial grade nylon, so I assume it is a better material. You can also expect better craftsmanship from a name brand as well.
The sleeve length seems way too long, im 5'6 125 lb and the XS size's sleeve has got like 4in on my arm.
My chest is about 36in with a tape measure. So if the jackets chest sizes are half sizes, then even the smalls have quite a bit of extra length. Anyone know what kind of fit these all have? Seems to be a little baggy with extra length on sleeves to be scrunched up a little.
LuaticaNone of the MA-1 were flame resistant, even the military ones where made from polyester. What you probably want is original CWU-36/P or CWU-45/P made from Aramid which is flame resistant.
LuaticaAs StressedOutCat says, the MA-1 was nylon, flame-retardant Nomex, which is chemically similar to Kevlar, both DuPont materials, was developed in the early ‘60s, and not marketed until 1967. I’ve got two CEU-45/P and a 36/P, one bought new, the others from eBay. New, you’re looking at roughly $300, my eBay jackets were both around £90/$90. The difference is one is winter weight, the other summer. I had Velcro patches sewn onto one of the 45’s, which I have original crew patches from Nostromo and Leonov, the ships in Alien and 2010 Odyssey 2 stuck to. I must admit I’m tempted by one of these, this style of jacket has become really popular here in the UK, but not of this quality.
