is it too much to ask or expect for a water bottle mesh at the side for a day pack to tour the downtown? for the trail, I understand we can always slide in a hydration pack into the laptop sleeve :)

KartThis model, I believe, has two exterior side pockets that can fit slimmer water bottles. won't probably fit a nalgene though. If you look on their website they have some photos of the bag with a water bottle in the side pocket.https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0277/0693/products/Topo_Designs_Daypack_F1b_grande.jpg?v=1460753863

wanderingwalnutYeah, I wish their water bottle pockets weren't recessed so you could fit a Nalgene/32 oz Hydroflask in it.

ChurchillWTheir Span Daypack features wider pockets that can hold Nalgenes and hydroflasks. Might be worth looking into. A little more expensive, but I personally think that it looks better than the original day pack. The colors are a little more old school also.

wanderingwalnutIt might fit a Nalgene, but I wish the pockets on that one weren't recessed too. Doesn't that take away from the internal volume of the main compartment?

ChurchillWyeah, honestly I was thinking the same thing. the pack is quite large for a day pack, but because the pockets are recessed, it might not fit everything you wanted. something else I could recommend is getting a carabiner and attaching it to one of the straps. That is what I did for the longest time with my trail pack until I began biking with it (didn't like the nalgenes swinging around). You could also look at Hyperlite's day break. that price isn't fun to look at, but it is definitely a solid pack. Even though it doesn't have that Retro look that Topo has, their packs are a whole lot more functional and there is more purpose behind some of the details. hope I was of some help. good luck with your search.
