I know this is an entry level DAC and you can't have everything. I was hoping this unit would have a separate power supply like my O2 headphone amp to reduce noise. But, am I kidding myself in thinking an "average audio joe" like me, would I even notice the difference? If you have "slightly better than audio joe" ears, I'd value your opinion and it would help me decide what DAC to go with. Thank-you Id be using this with the O2 amp and Grado 225s if that's a factor.

You can buy this cable for separate power supply. I use linear power supply with D10. Great pair.

I'm using it with the MD 02 Amp and MD CTH Tube Hybrid. I'd say it is silent. I hear no hiss or buzzes. It is powered through the Apple usb 3 camera connection kit and connected to an ipad as the source.

Topping is a competent company, so unless your USB port's power output is noisy to the point of being beyond spec, you will be fine. If you do have USB power resulting from Thör taking a massive hit of LSD, just pick up a powered USB hub.

It's quiet. DACs rarely introduce noise on their own, it's the amplification and source stages where the noise comes from.

You can get noise from a variety of places, so diagnosing noise in a complex system can be an absolute nightmare. Ground loops, for example, which produce a hum at the MAINS frequency, are caused by something in the chain having a different ground level than the others. Tubes are also a significant source of noise under certain conditions. They can be microphonic, meaning that they will pick up vibrations and transmit them, and can also pick up noise from electromagnetic sources like cell phones.

"Topping is a competent company, so unless your USB port's power output is noisy to the point of being beyond spec, you will be fine." Right.., assuming everything will be fine about of the topping brand product. lol. Have you seen the nx5 reviews, or the reviews about the Taishan DAC over at audio science review.?, I'm not sure i would just assume everything is "fine" because of the topping band. How do you feel about FiiO, you know their A3 hiss's powered by people's pc usb ports? So offer highly compromising performance when plugged in? Please, i say the assertion is a bit misleading.., if unintentional, i trust.
