Hi all. I recently received my Topping D-10 DAC. Love it! Only problem is my MacBook won’t see it unless I use the supplied 4’ USB2 cable. I tried a 10’ USB2 cable—nothing. Figured it was a bad cable, so I ordered another—still nothing. Anyone else run across this? Unfortunately I don’t have another USB2 device to test the cables on. Thanks for any help—Paul
I havn't run into this issue, as i do not have this device. But 10ft is about the extent of the usb interface for cabling, generally speaking.. You might need a more beefy digital interface cable.., Were both cables you ordered of the same make? I suspect "usb line amplifier", or "usb extender" MAY help. I'd perhaps try other usb 2 cables you might have, which could be of length similar to the supplied cable.., Can you order one cable of he 10foot make, but of shorter length, like 2ft and see if this works? Or you resolved the issue now? All the best.
Thanks for the suggestions, Cadiz. I reconfigured my setup, so I’ve been using the supplied 3’ cable with no issues. But I’ll pick up another make of cable and an extender and see what happens. I’d like to move the MacBook farther away from my system.
Yeup no problem. I use analog cables, for my keyboard and mouse and monitor(CRT " analog monitor"), it lets me connect to my equipment miles away, if i wanted, even without degradation. 10ft or 3 meters is also the typical extend of the HDMI and Displayport digital cable interfaces too, as a standard, at least without "boosters", and that said, as a tip ;-); the more things you have in your digital interface, like boosters and extenders, i'd be concerned that it could induce "jitter" or like i think you see "connection problems". Ideally though, i'm sure there's a good route for support made available., So a single "good" 5 foot usb(2?) cable, if sufficient, might be better then a 4ft cable and a "booster", even though we might think the booster would help secure the connection against the issue it MIGHT introduce an issue, too.. Shame thing's like cables and device don't just workout of the box like a sane person would think ;-) Cheers.
This is my first USB DAC, and it’s definitely more temperamental than my previous optically-connected device. Regardless, I‘m thrilled with the sound of it. I’ll experiment with some other cable brands. Thank for the tip!
