Okay folks, I've had the A30/D30 combo for a couple of months now. I put in the Burson V5i Opamp upgrade. I highly recommend if you're looking for an improvement but not wanting to buy a new amp. I have a question I'm hoping someone can answer. The A30 has a 3 position power switch; off, low, and "hi". I know from the owner's manual that it selects between low and high operating voltage. My question is when would it actually make sense to use one over the other. I've used this amp with HD58x Jubilees, HD6xx's, 32 ohm M&O's (32 ohm), some low impedance Betron IEM's. For the life of me, I can't tell a difference in sound quality or quantity between the 2 settings. The volume level doesn't change as it does when switching between gain stages. I'd like to understand why this option is even offered if it doesn't functionally seem to do anything. Thanks!

CaseyODDoes this d30 DAC actually have a RCA (L & R) input along with a RCA (L & R) output? It says in the description here that it does but I searched it on Amazon and the pictures don't show any RCA input on it and they don't have pictures of the backside of it here on massdrop.

Solderboy23https://www.soundphilereview.com/reviews/topping-d30-review-768/ Negative the D30 has a coax digital in (RCA), Optical SPDIF in, and USB in. It does have 2 single ended left and right outputs to your headphone amp, powered monitors, or pre-amp. So the only inputs are digital with only a single set of L&R analog RCA's out.

CaseyODHigher gains can be used with higher impedance headphones, like Sennheiser HD6XX which has 300 Ohms impedance. Those are harder to drive, since they require higher output voltage, hence the higher gain is needed. AKG K7XX headphone, for example, has 62 Ohms. You can experiment to see if it matters in your case.

andyoRoger that, but I’m not referring to the gain control. This is a low/high voltage operation switch separate from the gain control. The gain works as advertised. The low/high voltage switch doesn’t seem to affect anything at all regardless of the headphones plugged into the amp. It’s very odd.
