Nicest dac I ever heard
D50S. Just get it. It’s good. Comes with a remote. Built like a tank. What else do you need?

Sound great and Built like tanks
I purchased D50s, A50 & P50 and tried headphones with different ohms ranging from 30-600. They all sound great. I am very satisfied with these gears.

Cheap and cheerful giant killer!
  • Small solid form factor, great chip sets, (Qualcomm CSR8675 BT, 2 ESS ES9038Q2M SABRE DACS, XMOS XU208 USB, LME49720 OP AMP “that can be rolled”).
  • Stream via Bluetooth 5.0 apt-x HD, ACC, SBC, LDAC, or use an OTG/Lightning Camera Adapter and USB cable for direct connection to Android/IOS phones and tablets, to better suit your audiophile sensibilities.
  • Pair it with your favorite headphone amp, (Geshelli Labs Archel 2 Pro, JDS labs atom, etc.), and plug a toslink cable from your TV for a killer bedroom nightstand private system.
  • Plug in your PC, HP amp and a pair of powered monitors for a killer desktop system.
  • In the family room, hook up your TV with toslink, add a nice little power amp and your favorite pair of speakers, (and subwoofers), for an audiophile approved 2.0/2.1/2.2 home theater system with the convenient remote control!
  • It measures great, (ASR’s little darling dac), looks great, feels great and it sounds really good!
  • But don’t take my word as a happy owner. Just google it and see for yourself!
Edit: 03/28/2020. All who read this, please contact drop.com customer support and insist that they return to their previous price of $185 for the Topping D50s DAC. I have purchased this DAC twice at that price! My strong recommendation for this product is only applicable at the lower price! Drop.com increasing their price $30 in the midst of the crisis of a worldwide pandemic can only be construed as predatory behavior! And, should be considered illegal price gouging against their own like minded community! A community of loyal members who have evangelized the benefits of the Drop community to their friends and family! I say “NO MORE!” I will not be ordering ANYTHING from drop.com until they return to their original price! If we are unsuccessful in this endeavor, I highly recommend purchasing this and other products of this type from Apos audio! They will price match Drop.com on any item! Their customer service is excellent! Highly recommended! Be well my friends and best wishes! Cheers!

At this price level is the BEST DAC you will ever get. The only down side is lacking another stereo output so you are forced to spend on a headphone amp (for exemple). Other than that I'm happy. Oh yeah, and my unit is DEAD silent. If you hear EMI is probably a ground loop problem. I use a dedicated regulated power supply.

Great DAC, Lots of detail
Ordered this DAC and took aaaaages to get to me (thanks to backlog with AGS, not Mass). Have this unit hooked up to my Schiit Magni 3+ playing through my Sennheiser HD700. Lots of detail and clarity in the setup that doesnt change the sound signature at all. Im not good with describing sound but compared to my Xduoo XD-05 with burson Opamp, Id def say the sound is alot cleaner. Using a 5 port USB hub to power the unit and its dead quiet.

Awesome upgrade
Was not entirely satisfied with my streamer's built-in DAC. Connected the D50s to the streamer's coax digital output, and it has cleaned up the sound immensely. Great little addition to my system.

Do you get the same ear fatigue from any other sources, or is the Bluesound your only source? There is a definite improvement with the Topping. It clarified the sound, but I can't honestly say I had ear fatigue from the Bluesound. I am using a NAD C375 Amp connected to PSB T2's. I had ear fatigue with the T2's initially, but then installed some Isoacoustics GAIA's on them after hearing a demo of them at a show. They really transformed them. There was a lot of 'mud' in the lower mid-range which disappeared after the GAIA's were installed. If I was going to rank the difference: Topping DAC upgrade: 10% improvement, which is still a significant improvement, but the Isolators on the speakers: >30% improvement. Bottom line, before I would assume the DAC is the issue, I would check your speakers and/or their placement. If you don't have the problem with other sources, though, then definitely do the DAC upgrade. Small price to pay for better sound.

Which GAIA’s do you have? And are your speakers on carpet or hardwood floor? I too have the Isoaccoustics GAIA III’s. I installed them on my Dynaudio Stand 20 speaker stands (instead of the spikes) and yes it has improved the sound of my Dynaudio Contour 20 bookshelf speakers but they are sitting/playing on carpet for the time being which maybe I’m not getting the full performance benefit. Funny I actually bought the carpet spikes that Isoacoustics makes for the GAIA’s but after trying to use them I felt they were way too “unsafe” and had serious design flaws regarding stability. if you didn’t experience war fatigue then it’s probably my amplifier I was using at the time. Either way I am just not sure if I should get this D50S now or just wait and buy the D90. I know it’s apples to oranges but if the D90 sounds spectacular, then I may just wait for that. For what it’s worth, I do like the general AKM DAC sound like I’ve heard in the Marantz receivers and in my previously owned Marantz AV8805 pre processor using the akm4490. I can’t say I know definitively what ESS Sabre sounds like but if it measures good and has good reviews I figure it can’t be terrible so technically if I buy the D50S, I’m buying it blindly without prior experience with any ESS DAC. Anyways sorry for rambling but just wanted to share my situation. If you have any relevant feedback/advice, please do share. Nonetheless, thanks for taking your time to respond to my question(s), it has and will help me greatly and will be a big part of my deciding factor. Thanks again, Jonathan Harris

It seems like an upgrade, but i still get mouse and HDD noises over USB
Over optical no noises. It must be my crooked PC PS or GPU fault (too much BC mining i guess). But this thing is super small. Banana for scale, it would be less than half of a banana.

Sounds compelling, but where's the wall-wart?

This setup swaps the Modi 2 24/192 for this DSD512 32/768. Sounds great. Is it an improvement? Certainly for those tracks that have that bit-rate there's some discernible benefit when everything else in the room is silenced, e.g. late night work sessions. Subjectively, I do enjoy its rendering of low and high tones. Voices sound lucid and hearing the recording space has a live sound that makes it that much more personal. Listening to Bill Callahan, Beak, Tindersticks, Kayhan Kalhor.

Sounds very good, nice addition to my system
This will finish the digital part of my main system. It's just what I wanted to compliment the R-Pi Allo Digital One Roon Bridge. Using a Jung Super Regulator as a power supply. Sound is all I could ask for as in it fades away nicely and lets the music through. The value at this price is pretty incredible too!
