So I ended up buying my D70 from Amazon as it would arrive to me much sooner. I assume it is the exact same as the one sold here right?

You should cancel amazon order, this will save you $100, I think Drop has a lot of Topping DAC in stock

My order from Amazon is already shipping. Plus I'm in Canada so I ordered from the Canadian Amazon site. If I had ordered from Drop the exchange rate plus customs fees would have been close to the same price as my order from Amazon.

I own it, the BT version. I really like it but I haven't been through that many DAC's in my hi-fi life yet so take it for what it's worth. Can also mention that I did not get it via Drop. When I got it, it wasn't on Drop. If it was today I would just get the D90 retail but if $400 is really the most you want to spend then go for it.

I tried both DACs. D90 is more dynamic and percise, has stronger attack on bass and midrange, because of this, the presentation becomes more crispier and in your face (maybe a bit more resolve though). D70 in comparsion makes presentation a bit calmer and naturallly laid-back. After week of comparsions I like D70 midrange presentation a bit more. Maybe it's because of using OPA1612 opamps (there is only LME49720 used in D70), I don't know. If you are more into rhytmic and fast-pased music, like electronic and metal, then D90 might be a better choice. But if you like vocals and more comfort/effortless music presentation then D70 is very good option. I'm using mine with AT-HA22TUBE amp and Sennheiser HD660S.

Very helpful. Thanks! Makes me feel that much better about my D70! I use mine with the oh-so-famous THX amp and the xduoo TA-20 with JJ Electronic tubes. No complaints. Especially after tube-rolling. The stock Chinese tubes that come with the TA-20 suuuuuck.

I'm sorry, but I don't think that the "shipping from China is weird right now" explanation holds water. First off, this drop closed more than a month ago. Second, right now there are Chinese shops in Ali Express with expected delivery as soon as March 3rd via DHL. I contacted Drop about this and after three days of no replies I canceled my order and asked for a refund. Then I proceeded to order the DAC from Apos Audio. Sure, It cost me $70 more, but it's being delivered tomorrow.

Anyone upgrade the power cable for their D70? Do you think it's worth and any noticeable differences?

Thanks for sharing. I have 2 OCC power cables (both 1M) coming. 1 from the power outlet to my power conditioner and 1 from power conditioner to D70. See it will make any differences. I also support the @Mark_M that shielding is my main concern too. I upg both USB and XLR to better shielded one. Will share my impression afterwards :)

I don't know why but there is the difference. You can ignore the topic of power management, or you can discover a lot of new things by trying a high-quality power distributor, power cables. There is also diference in interconnects, usb, used player (I like foobar2000). Some tips. It is better to use connectors from the same material as in the power outlet and the power inlet of the device. Gold-plated materials usually slightly softens and darkens high frequencies. 2 meters is more difference then 1 meter. Without shielding, the sound is usually freer and more dynamic. The ground wire may not be used; in some cases, this may worsen the result.

some like MQA.... one of the reasons I like MQA is simply because all of the MQA albums are albums that started out with great recording/production... so even if you don't like MQA the source material is the best you can get...if you buy MQA music it comes packaged in a FLAC and plays back on any dac that supports FLAC files... and if you have a dac that unlfolds the MQA then thats just icing on the cake... if you like the actual music its not " WORST thing EVER...

i heard the d70 is very slightly better than SMSL SU8 v2, is it true? Giving that, $400 price tag is way too high. The Su-8 v2 is $170, the reasonable price for D70 should be around 250 at most.

I've found a little more oomph on the bass end compared to the SU-8, and better driver situation with 64 bit Windows and DX10+ games. But yeah, definitely diminishing returns. But this is probably a good point to end at if you don't want to really get into the $1500+ DACs. Ultra diminishing returns there.
