Issue with fixed line out. Just received this and wanted to use as just a DAC with fixed line out. I can easily switch between three modes of headphone only out, headphone and DAC preamp out, and DAC pre amp out. Yet despite reading instructions 10 times I can not get it into the mode where the volume indicator (dB) goes away and I see the sample rate. This is the display when it is sending a fixed output. I doubt the 0 gain on the volume is the same thing. Yes I have hit the line out repeatedly and nothing changes on the display and the volume control always works. Tried the same using the volume knob to change the line out mode. Is this user error or a problem with the unit?

Hey y’all, im and audio noob and recently bought this gem to drive my HD 6xx for pc gaming. How the hell do I set this up? Using an optical cable, not sure if I should have it on DAC or not. Seems like my pc isn’t finding the device?

I thought that optical was generally better though? Is this incorrect?

based on my research, for the DX3 Pro it doesn't matter that much.

So, given the number of QC issues from even recent buyers: 1) How easy are returns? 2) How long does Drop handle issues (eg, first 30 days)? 3) Is there a US address for warranty service? 4) What has been your experience if you have been unfortunate enough to receive a faulty unit? I'd love a nice new compact DSD DAC but I don't have the time or patience to deal with problems.

No problem, hopefully that was just a lemon! Would really suck if these units were really that unreliable.

Knock on wood - so far mine is flawless! Great little unit. On a side note: be curious to see Audio Science review a new V2 - see how the swapped headphone amp stacks up to V1.

How would one cable this amp to work with an iPhone? The lightening-camera cord did not work. Also with high ohm AKG-702 the amount of audio output was no different than that coming out of a smartphone. I may not know what I am doing but my Onkyo HA-200 was superior to this amp.

Regarding the output with the AKGs, did you try changing the gain setting? It's the "M" button on the remote (makes no sense, but that's what it is). And regarding the iPhone...use bluetooth.

You will need to set the sound configuration on the PS4 to be PCM (not bitstream), but it should work via the Toslink.

"Pro" and it's S/PDIF in and unbalanced RCA out. That is not pro, that is consumer. Once again this confirms one of my long held beliefs that any product with the word 'Pro' in the title, is inherently not. Also, specs? Like what is the noise floor, SNR, bandwidth of the analog output subsystem etc. There are thousands of products these days that can do 24 bit 192k. Many chipset soundcards can boast of such capability. To distinguish this from the latest Soundblaster, some actual digits on performance would be great.

thanks, specs are decent. Not sure why Drop would leave them off of the description? It's too bad about the unbalanced though.

I have a speaker that can connect via RCA OR 3.5mm jack. The 3.5mm jack is the normal mode that I use to connect it to my PC. Can I connect this speaker (it is powered with directly in the wall socket) by using the headphone out 3.5mm?

It will probably work, but you may have problems with distortion when the DX3 volume is high as the input of the powered speakers becomes clipped. Put another way, the DX3 may "shout" too loudly for the powered speaker's input. It makes more sense to use the RCA on the back. Not only is the output appropriate for line level, but there is a setting to mute those RCA outs when you plug in headphones. That is handy.
