Topping’s DX3 Pro has a long list of excellent specifications, and at the top are the highly regarded XMOS XU208 USB chip with dual AK4493 DACs and an OPA1612 opamp. This combination allows the DAC/amp to drive headphones with great accuracy and power: an impressive 1,000 mW from the eighth-inch jack on the front panel Read More
Hello everyone!
Finally I managed to retrieve my Topping dx3 pro for the DT990 Pro that I received as a gift some time ago ..
Mainly as an audio neophyte in addition to connecting everything and downloading the drivers I don't know if by chance other settings are needed, now I'm trying the setup and for example (with Windows volume at max) i can hear an adequately "high" volume "only" at -8.0 dB with the gain already set to +9.0 (without the gain I don't seem to hear much) ..
Am I doing something wrong?
I've read around people who complain about very loud music with a volume "set" much lower than mine, it makes me think that maybe some settings are missing, maybe I'm not even using the headphones to their full potential ...
The Topping is connected to the PC with the USB cable and I use it together with headphones for audio listening (Tidal, Spotify Premium, etc.) and for casual gaming, obviously the general volume of Windows is set to maximum.
Thank you and best regards!
Hi Guys, I would like to check : I am trying to use FIR filter settings on newly arrived DX3Pro V2 but for me seems like changing from F-3 to anything else just doing nothing ... is there any way to test it? Either I cannot hear it or ....
HaxpesNo you can’t hear it. The filter affects frequencies above 20kHz. But to get the “Hi Res” sticker the device has to have frequency response up to 40kHz
Hi folks.
I wonder if I can pick your collective brains. I just received a DX3 Pro today and plan to use it mainly as a DAC in Line Out mode with my PrimaLuna integrated amp. I will also sometimes use the headphone amp.
My issue is that the DX3 will not change from Pre Amp mode to Line Out mode. Pressing the Line button on the remote does nothing, with the volume (defaults at -30dB) still present on screen and no sample rate. The volume knob is active. Double pressing the volume knob does not switch to Line Out either. According to the instruction leaflet I have V2 as it has LDAC on the options.
If I put it into pre mode (dont have much choice) and adjust the volume to 0dB is this essentialy the same as line out mode ? I have emailed Topping for advice but would be most grateful if anyone has any ideas.
Incidentally if I change the digital input the sample rate flashes up for a second or two then defaults to the volume.
Cheers
Jim
Greatbear29Sorted. Some time ago but forgot to post. As has been explained elsewhere the V2 manual contains an error and the fixed output can no longer be toggled via the remote but has to be done using the procedure detailed in the manual of accessing the setup menus from shutdown. I had done this but it seems you have to then come out of DAC mode and then go back in for it to activate. Now all working nicely.
Update: After using this thing for about 7 months, it seems to be stuck in standby mode. I'm using a Mac, and the sound device shows up in Sound settings, but the unit itself shows nothing but a dot. Pressing the button just turns it off and on. Resetting the unit to factory settings did nothing. Good waste of a couple hundred bucks.
I got this thing and the bluetooth antannae is loose inside. Is it safe to open up and fix? Seems unreasonable to have such an unfortunate build quality issue at this price.
Also, it defaults to bluetooth which is just frustrating because it will randomly switch to bluetooth if I stop listening for 5 minutes. Is there a way to change the default? It leaves the product feeling extremely obnoxious to use.
Issue with fixed line out.
Just received this and wanted to use as just a DAC with fixed line out. I can easily switch between three modes of headphone only out, headphone and DAC preamp out, and DAC pre amp out. Yet despite reading instructions 10 times I can not get it into the mode where the volume indicator (dB) goes away and I see the sample rate. This is the display when it is sending a fixed output. I doubt the 0 gain on the volume is the same thing.
Yes I have hit the line out repeatedly and nothing changes on the display and the volume control always works. Tried the same using the volume knob to change the line out mode. Is this user error or a problem with the unit?
DATMANHi Datman.
I see you have the same problem as me. I just posted earlier today. Did you ever find a fix ? I get the feeling I am missing something simple. I have not tried a hard reset but perhaps that might be worth a go.
Cheers

Sorry just saw this. One needs to do as the instructions say AND turn the headphone output on and off. A kind person mentioned this to me elsewhere. Then it seems to switch into DAC mode. Mine however keeps going into standby mode now. Really this things is a PITA and I am pretty tolerant.
Hey y’all,
im and audio noob and recently bought this gem to drive my HD 6xx for pc gaming. How the hell do I set this up? Using an optical cable, not sure if I should have it on DAC or not. Seems like my pc isn’t finding the device?
dsilvHi friend, I have the same interest of you to use a DAC for gaming and music purposes. I am a noob too but a I have been reading about that and using USB port for gaming should be better. I am going to receive a Topping DX3 next week. I hope to resolve my doubts.
So, given the number of QC issues from even recent buyers:
1) How easy are returns?
2) How long does Drop handle issues (eg, first 30 days)?
3) Is there a US address for warranty service?
4) What has been your experience if you have been unfortunate enough to receive a faulty unit?
I'd love a nice new compact DSD DAC but I don't have the time or patience to deal with problems.
alastairpeiKnock on wood - so far mine is flawless! Great little unit. On a side note: be curious to see Audio Science review a new V2 - see how the swapped headphone amp stacks up to V1.
