I've read a lot of reports that over USB this clicks constantly. Have they fixed that?
Firmware patch is still in the works. Mine arrived few days ago and I don't notice clicking since I just stick to 44Khz.
The problem is worst on Windows via direct DirectSound output.
Thanks! Do you have a link to a good thread somewhere they are discussing this? The only thing keeping me from buying this DAC is the clicking issue. I had it in the basket on Amazon when I found out.
Well there's like 52 pages worth of discussion on audioscience review :p
Ah I worded that very badly. I meant some kind of officially announcment from them that they figured out the problem. I didn't read that whole long 50 page discussion.
Here is Topping official response
>>We will try to find a solution from XMOS. If it did not send out "cut off" signal when sampling rate did not change, this will be able to reduce most of the click sound. We already ask the XMOS firmware supplier try to solve this problem, this will take serval days and we will tell progress and results if necessary. I think the best solution will be a firmware update for DX3 Pro, we will keep working on this.
I have had an email from Topping saying they are currently debugging the new firmware and releasing soon to the public. Fingers crossed.
Can anyone please explain what a firmware update entails? It would be a download from their website?
Yes an update for the device via download,
This may sound like a weird question, but does the click occur in the audio output or emanating from the unit itself.
Let me explain. I have the xDuoo XD-05, and it too clicks when first receiving USB input or changing sampling. However, the click issues from the unit itself -- from inside the chassis. The click is not audible through headphones.
There would normally be a new firmware file and some program/control panel to push it into the device. So pretty easy stuff if all goes well.
I think from inside the chassis. The device itself.
