Incredible quality for the price - A whole new listening experience for this newbie
search
I've used this dac/amp for roughly 3 days now and I have to say that I'm thoroughly impressed. I use a pair of HE560 headphones to listen to music while at work and have used an Audioengine D1 to power them. I did this due to the fact that I frequently have client meetings at my desk and needed something unobtrusive. Never did I realize what I was missing by under-powering my headphones. To be clear, they still sounded good with that little USB powered amp, so I didn't quite know what I was missing. When I stepped up to the Topping and changed out the cable to a balanced cable (I haven't tried the SE cable yet with this amp), the difference in sound was almost enough to make me cry. The level of transparency and overall depth to the music was enormous. Listening to the remastered Abbey Road on Amazon Music's new service with "Ultra HD" quality (whatever that means) was like hearing that record for the first time. Listening to 'Drop it Like it's Hot' by Pharrell and Snoop Dogg was pretty nuts (high class, I know). I've never realized there was so much detail in the production of that song. And on the flip side, I intentionally listened to some 'not so good' sources and poorly mixed audio (Kanye's new record which has atrocious mixing and mastering) and the transparency came out like a double-edged sword. I couldn't even bare listening to the crappy sources (also I don't like Kanye's new record...). The unit looks very professional and matches with my overall setup which I enjoy. It's not going to scare off my clients either as it's tough to know what the unit is for if you weren't an audiophile. Ultimately, I think I'll purchase another one to drive my system at home. There I use HD 650s hooked up to an M-Audio interface where I dabble with music recording. I also do a lot of gaming on that PC and that's where I'm wondering how this Topping will perform. It's so thoroughly impressive and I'm excited to continue using it. Let me know if you have any questions! I'm certainly a neophyte in this world, but I'll do my best to answer any questions you have. I'll update this later with more impressions as I get more time listening to different types of music. Also, FWIW, I'm listening through Amazon Music's new service, signal is set to 32-bit, 384,000hz. If there is a better way of configuring this in Windows, I'd love to know. That appears to be the highest sample rate supported by my PC.

boyd.mediaAt times, even when you don't intend to buy an audio product, you feel happy just by reading some other person's reactions.

boyd.media32/384 is the highest setting on USB. To go higher, use II2S input. You can use it as a DAC only for your new setup.

boyd.mediaTry Qobuz — many audiophiles prefer it to Amazon HD, and this is backed up by a recent review by Steve Stone in The Absolute Sound where he compares the hi-res music services.
