Hello, I just joined, primarily for the audiophile products. Looking at purchasing the NHT C3 speakers for our new living room. Space is about 15 feet wide by 33 long and they will fire long ways. Space is just for general listening, music room with all equipment is downstairs, so hoping they will fill it with sound nicely. Cheers.

The Topping DX7 is a really good device for the price. It has a very solid build, and is heftier than it looks. It has a nice OLED screen, and the remote is much better than I was anticipating, and is one of the best items with this product if you are intending to use it for the center of your music listening setup.
The Topping is more than powerful enough to power even my most demanding headphones. The ZMF Eikon and Topping DX7 is a truly magical pairing, and this is just out of the single ended amplifier. I am REALLY looking forward to trying out the balanced connection when my cable finally gets here from Ursine Audio. The DAC is very musical, and has great transparency. Compared with the Joutenheim, I find myself gravitating to the Topping DX7 more often than the Joutenheim since the remote is great. Having the ability to power cycle the device, control volume and change inputs without having to leave my seat is fantastic, and the auto on/off feature is also a big plus. The Joutenheim has a single power toggle switch in the back of the unit that is kind of annoying to reach around and turn on/off, which becomes problematic with placement options since the back needs to be accessible.
The size is about perfect for my environment, and the unit (even under a heavy volume load) never gets hot or even warmer the ambient air around it. Vents are out the back and sides, so just keep those clear and you should be golden. The Joutenheim gets extremely hot, and I would be concerned having that placed on top of, or around another unit that would get that warm.
The one downfall of the Topping is the software. The drivers are a little spotty, and the DSD functionality is less than straightforward to get functioning properly with Fubar. With that said, the drivers will improve over time, so do not let that drive you away from looking at this little gem.
I picked up the Topping DX7 off of eBay for a little over $280. Based on the price, the fabulous remote, and the more than ample enough power, I can not recommend this unit enough. Just understand the drivers are less than perfect, but if you are not looking for anything above 24bit /192k hz, then this shouldn't be a big issue for you. Just read forums on head-fi and the users there have some nice walk throughs how to get the unit working as intended with it's spotty software.
Happy hunting! -Elzizo
My quick thought... the Jot is cleaner and more powerful, the DX7 is far more functional. If I had to choose, I'd go with the DX7. It's more than powerful enough to drive needy planars (I've used it on the LCD3's, LCD-XC's and a few others) and when I want to kick it up a notch, or several, it plays nicely with the pro-iCan.
