Obviously I did my research, but without listening to it, or have a trustworthy friends recommendation; I took a chance. Unit sounds wonderful, and could only get better after initial break in period.
I’m also happy a read so many reviews and it didn’t surprise me when the unit didn’t work out of the box! Power selector was set to 220V by the manufacturer “Default” …smart btw!
It’s a great DAC far superior to my Work PC sound card, and all the input types I require for testing and utilizing my auxiliary devices. Not to neglect build and quality is beyond reproach.
Excellent Pairing with Sennheiser HD650 or HD6XX, also tried a various other pairs I use for work and all sounded great, but this combo will be my go to work system.
Normally the ESS Sabre DAC, whatever the version (9010, 9016,9018, 9038) are good companions to the HD6XX because the slightly « hot » treble of the DAC offsets the slightly recessed highs of the headphone. In other words a good match. That doesn’t mean that other DACs are bad matches, but the ESS Sabre + HD6XX is a good match, provided that the amp in between is rather balanced if not « neutral » (in the odjective sense of the word)
