Absolutely wonderful DAC/AMP combo. I use an LCX as an amp for this and the sound is absolutely stellar. The built-in amp gets the job done but it is definitely the weak link. The DAC section here is incredible and worth the asking price alone.

VoxataHi there, I noticed some comments re modding the DX7s. I was wondering what you did and if you ever put up the video. It's a great DAC but if there is a good way of squeezing a little more out of it I'd like to try...

MattLumSure, its easy to take apart. Just unscrew the side screws and gently remove the front plate disconnecting the controller ribbon. Then unscrew the bottom screws and pull the back out gently to remove the motherboard. Then pull the two heatsinks. Apply the adhesive thermal tape to the top of the chips and then rescrew the heatsinks back on. Don't screw them on crazy tight, but very snug and level. You can additionally apply heatsinks to certain other components like voltage regulators. I recommend applying tape to the heatsink then pressing onto the component. I no longer have the DAC so I don't have any pictures. I upgraded to the D70. Stock form the DX7s has no thermal grease to transfer heat to the heatsinks, I don't understand why as failure of the amp section has occured for some users. This helps heat transfer considerably. VoxataHi there Voxata, Thanks for getting back to me - much appreciated. Heatsinks seem like an easy "fix". I'll definitely get onto it. You didn't bother with the caps or other components? One last thing - did you find a lot of difference between the DX7s and the D70? Regards, Matthew

MattLumThey both have a different presentation, despite measurements not showing such. I prefer the D70, it's expansive. Didn't swap any caps purposefully on the DX7s, what it's got is good enough.

VoxataThanks for coming back- appreciate your comments. Perhaps a D70 sometime in the future then for me. 😁
