I've had quite a few RealForces and several of them have shipped in the Topre box with a slight warp. This is fairly normal for the board and not indicative of poor QC. A quick twist is almost always enough to straighten it out.
Yeah, that's what happened to me. At first I was freaked out, but then realized a quick, light twist did the trick.
Also, is it me being absolutely nitpicky or are some of the other caps ABS as well? I noticed some mismatched blacks on my keyboard when I looked at it from a different angle, and when I look closely I realize that both Shifts, Enter, Backspace, Ctrl, and Caps Lock seem to have the same sheen on top as the space bar, so I'm not sure if that's just me being unnecessarily paranoid or if those caps are indeed ABS as well.
I don't think they are ABS, there's a lot of reviews on the Internet and on YouTube, not one of them says that. They might have a slightly different finish because of their size but it doesn't mean they are not PBT. If they were ABS then Realforce has played a big joke on all of us and they would of got punished for it a long time ago.
I was wondering if their extra length had something to do with the finish on top, and I'm guessing that's the case.
Romevi, I’ve seen other users on a keyboard forum some time ago make note of the Realforce modifier keycaps. They do seem to be a little darker than the alphas, but knowing the kind of discerning people that hang out on those forums, I’m sure they would have noticed if the keycaps were something other than PBT.
On a different note, did your 87U not arrive in the Topre Realforce cardboard box, just a Massdrop box? If that is the case, not cool. I’m waiting for batch 2, and hoping to find a Topre box *inside* a Massdrop box.
It's a Topre box inside of a Massdrop box. Mine was very loosely surrounded by air bags, leaving more than enough room for it to slide around, however, the Massdrop box was a pretty snug fit lengthwise, so, it probably didn't slide around very much, if at all.
You're right. It obviously would've been detected if the other caps were of different material.
My keyboard came in the regular Realforce box, and that arrived in a Massdrop box. Like reznq mentioned, the box was fine lengthwise, but there was about an inch more on both the height and width with no bubble, paper, or other sort of packaging. The Realforce box has a dent but the keyboard itself seems fine so far.
Thanks, reznq and romevi.
Glad to hear about the standard Topre box, not so happy about the reports on the lack of padding around it – and the warped keyboards and scratched keycap. Hopefully these will be worked out.
