View Full Discussion Hey guys, so here's the deal
I joined this drop and got my keyboard in the mail last week. I purchased the 55G version and I have a Novatouch TKL already to compare it to. The Realforce 55G is just so smooth and buttery like. The NovaTouch isn't a bad keyboard but the click is just shy of a Cherry mech keyboard. Absolutely nothing wrong with either board.
Ok, so back to the deal...
The 87U is made in a plastic clip on case (most of us already know this). The problem is that the case can flex. As was previously mentioned, to fix this, take the board in both your hands and push in the top center where the realforce legend on top is at. Bend towards you to undo the inverted u bend /-----\
and the board will flatten out |-----|
So what about the deal???
Head on over to the voting section and vote with your clacks on the poll for an aluminum realforce keyboard case. With enough votes to go forward with something like this we can hope to see something like this here on MassDrop!
Wow no fucking way, there's an aluminum case for RF! I'm down, you can update us here if you see any GBs on Geekhack anad I think a couple of us are gonna join.
Those cases were made in limited amounts. The last one by Digilog sold earlier this year--for $200. Not sure how likely those polls are going to succeed.
romevi, did you not see the last drop on the PBT spacebars? Over a 1000 people bought the things, granted they're not all for a realforce. 109 people bought in on this drop at $215 a pop, 139 have already requested a second drop. Massdrop is about the community voting for things WE want. If we don't ask, might as well shop BestBuy and pickup a Logitech keyboard and mouse...
The plastic shell is nice, an aluminum shell will make this keyboard that much more like the caps that I for one wish would ever be produced. A case? That just takes a block of aluminum and a 3D printer.
Help a brother out :)
Oh, don't get me wrong. I'd *love* for this to happen; I'm just being a bit cautious.
The cases were done by the Korean community (?), which is notorious for doing limited runs. To me, getting another run of these cases is like getting another run of the KMACs. Ain't gonna happen.
matt3o had designed the space bars and used Massdrop as the avenue for sales, so I'm assuming those were going to happen either way.
That said, I definitely voted for the cases anyway. If anything, we may just end up getting something entirely new designed through Massdrop, which, with Topre finally getting bigger here in the west, may see the light of dawn after all.
