I would not participate in this drop, because it does not offer the RF combination that I would favor. I would want a TKL form factor in black with either all-45g or all-55g switches, to which I would then add silencing rings and lubing of switches and stabilizers. Alternatively, I would want a black TKL PFU edition, which has all-45g switches and factory silencing. I have already purchased two of the black TKL PFU models from Amazon at $348 each. The extra $100 seemed worth the savings in parts and labor for the built-in silencing. I would never buy a variable weight RF, because I consider the 30g switches far too light to avoid unwanted keypresses. I already had some Topre keycap sets, and I have replaced the alphas with legended blue kecaps, keeping the black spacebar and modifiers. I also alternated blue caps with red in the F-key row. For remapping, I have attached a Hasu USB-USB converter. I am typing this on one the black RF R2 TKL PFU edition in my home office, and it is glorious! The other RF R2 is at my work office.

HypersphereI've been hovering in the fence in purchasing the PFU limited edition Topre. Partially because I already have a R1 modded 45g silenced Topre already so I don't know if it justified to pay so much for something that might be "close enough" already. Do you find the purple slider vs modded silent different enough to justify the price?

HydeExcellent question! I'd say if you already have an R1 all-45g that you've silenced, it wouldn't be worth it to buy the R2 PFU. However, if you want an additional RF and don't want the hassle of installing silencing rings, it could be worth the extra money to get the factory-silenced version. Some people might be able to tell the difference between normal and purple sliders, but I don't feel or hear a difference between my lubed and silenced R1 and my R2 PFU. For those buying their first RF, I must say I really like my RF R2 PFU. The pic below shows mine after dressing it up with caps that I had already purchased a few years ago. My only misgivings about the board is that I wish they had come out with a 60% version, detachable cable, and complete programmability with TMK or QMK. For remapping, I am using an external Hasu USB-USB converter.

HypersphereHow would you say the typing experience to the R2 PFU compares to the FC660C?

KBDUserGood question. The Leopold FC660C was my very first Topre-switch keyboard. Since then, I have owned a number of other Topre-switch keyboards, including the HHKB Pro 2, HHKB Pro 2 Type-S, RF87U45, RF87U55, Novatouch, and RF R2 TKL PFU 45g. I have also modified a HHKB Pro 2 wth 55g domes. All of my Topre-switch boards have now been lubed and fitted with silencing rings except the FC660C, which I gave away. The Type-S HHKB and RF R2 were factory-silenced. I would say that the typing feel of the FC660C is simlar to that of the RF and Novatouch boards. Because the switches are mounted in a steel plate, these boards have a more solid feel than the HHKB, whose switches are mounted in the plastic case. However, I like the springy feel of the HHKB, and because it is more resilent than the steel-plate boards, I find it less tiring for long typing sessions. In addition, the HHKB is my favorite layout, and 60% is my preferred form factor. I also appreciate the detachable cable on the HHKB. I liked the FC660C, but at the time, the stock keycaps were not as nice as those on the RF or HHKB. I also didn't like the layout of the FC660C I prefer either the HHKB layout or a standard layout as found in the RF or Novatouch. These are the reasons I gave it away.

HypersphereHaha thanks for confirming my suspicion. I was thinking if I haven't invested so much effort and time into modding my Topre already, I'd probably have jumped in on the R2 by now. I also just recently ordered parts to silent and PBT keycap swap my Type Heaven. So at the moment I probably don't need another Topre board. Maybe in the future if they release a cheaper 45g silent non APC and non limited edition then I'll jump on it (currently such thing do exist but only in JIS layout, also pretty sure they jacked up price because it's "limited"). Oh and looks like we have lots of new products coming soon in US layout: http://www.realforce.co.jp/en/products/index_office.html#anchorFul

HydeNew products, but no 45 gr. silenced non-PFU, as far as I can see.

HypersphereThe latest FC660Cs have double-shot PBT keycaps, which is the one I ordered. So I am not expecting keycap inferiority. It's going to come down to layout. If the FC660C doesn't offer added efficiency, maybe I should just go with a full 104-key PFU.

KBDUserYeah unfortunately, I might wait a bit and see if things change later lol. Oh as for FC660C, I find everything is perfect except if they had silent version it would be better. Personally I can't go back to non-silent Topre anymore it makes a huge difference for me feel wise (not just sound).

HydeI probably should have stuck with what I know [that I like 45 gr. silenced]. We'll see how the FC660C is.
