The TOPS Knives HOG (Hunter of Gunmen) is so named because of the designer’s background as a sniper. While on duty, he got the chance to handle many knives, none of which was quite right Read More
CoachCarlHmm, if you mean the ballistic nylon sheath from the photos, that's not what mine came with. I got the standard TOPS leather sheath (the same one that fits the BOB, I believe). From the TOPS website it seems that all HOGS ship with leather sheaths as standard - maybe massdrop just really needs to update their product info. The leather sheath isn't bad at all - simple, sturdy, traditional-styling. Has very good retention. The firestarter it comes with is terrible, so I replaced it, and whistles aren't my thing, but the sheath itself looks quite nice.
Mine arrived recently. Very impressed - extremely ergonomic handle (in my mechanix-large sized hands) , came sharp as a razor. Would take this over an ESEE any day of the week. For those interested, it came with the leather sheath instead of the nylon, so pretty chuffed with that too. Now my main problem is trying to talk myself out of buying the CUT 4.0 too. Like my bank balance isn't hurting enough from all these drops. :/
Haha, I ended up buying the CUT too. But they make a great primary/back-up combo together. It's a shame that TOPS has let itself become associated with silly, impractical Rambo-wannabe blades, because there are some real gems in their catalogue for bushcrafters and outdoorsmen.
OCoelhoPretoAgree with you there on TOPS have hits & misses though still not sure about the CUT 4.0 personally but that's just my preference.
Have a great day !
This is a sweet, sweet knife. If only it came with a kydex sheath. Oy. Still, would strongly consider it as a camping knife with some tactical features. I like that handy loop/ring at the end of the handle, and TOPS coatings stand up pretty well over time.
Reminds me of a drop I joined 3 years ago for the Becker BK16. One of the few fixed blades I have but one hefty knife, although without micarta handle. It's attached to my go-bag with the nice molle sheath it came with. I want to find a Tops knife, just don't need that many small fixed blades. Either a pocket folder or something larger (kukri maybe) to use on atv rides. Any suggestions for a folder or purse blade? Yes, I'm a pow-pow and blade gal 😎
mayorblurpsI'd recommend the Ontario Knife OKC Rat II:
https://www.amazon.com/Ontario-Knife-Sp-Black-Folding-7Inches/dp/B00BBPAOCW
Comes standard with AUS-8 steel but there's also a version in D2 steel though I couldn't find it with Prime on Amazon. If you want a slightly larger folder than the Rat I is good. They both come in a myriad of scale colors and blade finishes.
Jason.ElementIts bordering on false advertising. If a knife includes a sheath according to the description but the pictures are of another sheath... yeah not good. How do we know this is a picture of the actual knife?
