Fixed blade knives are TOPS’ bread and butter. But the Mini Scandi folding knife’s solid execution is testament to the company’s ability to diversify its offerings Read More
Who says you can’t EDC a scandi. Tops has made it easier with this folder. You can now feather stick to your heart’s content while riding the NYC subway! All joking aside, this has the feel of its fixed blade counterpart but in a more portable version. I’m not sure of the ruggedness this steel versus 1095, but it definitely can cut through boxes and man can it open mail!
I like this knife, but I don't love it. The scandi grind, and the micarta scales are both awesome. The detent is so bad I can flip the blade out with my wrist, no flipper needed. The pocket clip is so loose that the knife has fallen out of my pocket. Lastly, the blade rests so shallowly between the scales that I have cut myself several times by just putting my hand in my pocket. This is an Italian made Topps knife, I expected more. My $39 civivi fit and finish is much better. Great design, poor execution.
I bought the knife because of the "scandi grind" I do very much wish it had a full scandi grind. I guess I will find out if this is a good or bad idea because it will have a full scandi grind soon. As an owner of a Spyderco Bushcrafter knife with a full scandi grind, I have come to really like the scandi grind. I am not a pro sharpener but I discovered I am successful at sharpening the full scandi grind.
As for the rest of the knife, the lock up is excellent. A satisfying "snick" when it locks open. Even though the flipper tab has no jimping on it, the blade flips out relatively easy.
The blade is perfectly centered in the handle.
The bearings came oiled. TOPS is taking care of the little things. A good sign.
There is jimping on the blade. Not aggressive but it is there.
The handle is somewhat slippery...it works for me...we are also not being charged for carbon fiber.
The knife is easy to use.
I really like the almost full deep carry clip ( my ZT 0562 has a deeper carry clip - hides even better in the pocket )
Overall the knife seems to be well built and I like it !
*** I have no experience with this 690 steel and have no idea how it will hold up over time.***
go cut something.

Excellent knife from TOPS, worth the price. The blade deploys smoothly via the discreet flipper tab and lockup is solid. The fit and finish is precise and looks very upscale. The best of both worlds, it works as both EDC and gentleman's carry.
Italy build a great quality knife, love TOPS Mini Scandi even though it's modified it works great as a light weight EDC knife, been using it daily for regular tasks. Still haven't used it on wood, but judgeing by how sharp and well it cuts everything else, it should be great for that as well. N690 isn't my favorite steel, but they did a excellent job with it and it works great. Saved some money buying it through Mass Drop so thanks you.
While the blade is decent enough there is one thing that ruins this knife, the liner lock. It plain sucks. It sticks and is seriously uncomfortable against the thumb. The absolute worst I have ever felt.
