Go buy a cold steel recon 1 for similar or less price and get a better knife in every way. Better steel, stronger lock, better made

I think the scandi grind is the main attraction here.

The handle on the fixed blade Mini Scandi is milled to give a superior grip, which is one of the things that make it such a good little knife. The handle on this has the same outline, but the Micarta scales are as flat as a board - no milling. Makes it a lot less interesting to me.

Cold steel recon 1, code 4, American lawman, immortal are all under $100 and most are under $90. S35vn with a good heat treat that going to perform. Don't have to worry about a liner lock either.

I'm concerned about the liner lock. not even a frame lock? despite the better steel, I think I'd go with something like the cold steel finn wolf just based on the superior lock.

Actually other cold steels would be better than the Finn wolf since it has the older aus8 steel. You want the newer xhp or s35vn

I bought one of these a little over a year ago. I already owned another knife in the Bohler N690 Cobalt steel and love it based on my own experience with it. This one hasn't let me down, either. In a year of sometimes hard use, I haven't had to re-sharpen it once...only quickly run a ceramic across it or strop it every now and then. As much as I like the knife (and it is my EDC folder), I wouldn't necessarily consider it a "steal" at $90. You can get a good knife for less and probably be happy, especially if you aren't a TOPS fan. You can also pay a lot more $ for a lot less knife and end up with something nowhere near as universally functional as this little pocket puukko. Your $; your call.

I bought one at full online retail for $99 The first Tops I’ve owned & it doesn’t give confidence to buy their products. The micarta is absolutely smooth on one side & has a reasonable rendition of traction on the other. Not exactly a great flipper by any stretch of the imagination. Steel is okay & about what I expect from N690Co for retention. Basically I’ve got a knife that’s so-so to use & one I basically can’t even sell or trade Not recommenced even at half the price.

I got this knife on the last drop and the blade grind was, imo not acceptable. I contacted Tops Knives directly and have to say that their customer service is phenomenal. Within minutes of my email I was in contact with a customer service representative and they sent me a new knife. The replacement is spot on. I'm completely understanding of production discrepancies and that nobody is perfect. My overall impression of Tops Knives is that they make a robust quality knife and care about their customers.

Oiling the micarta would definitely make it darker. It might make it a bit more slippery as well though.

I've oiled a few of my traditionals with micarta covers. It definitely gives them a richer tone but it goes away over time.

How handfilling is the handle if at all? Would the handle be a similarly handfilling as a Benchmade Mini Griptilian for example? And what is the angle of the grind?

definitely thicker than a minigrip. It’s thicker than I had expected but it fits my large hands nicely.

So uh... paying for the "Made in the USA" mark? Seems a bit overpriced otherwise.
