YoshinoThermaltake sources power supplies from a variety of manufacturers. Many of their low-priced models are not very good (and you really should use them with a UPS), but higher-end models such as this are excellent. Almost every major non-manufacturer makes both crap, okay, and excellent PSU's. There is no difference between Thermaltake, Corsair, EVGA or Cooler Master on this. It all depends on who actually manufactured the model in question. If you want a trusted name, then buy Seasonic or Enermax. They actually make their own PSU's. No one else does (save for FSP, which is not really sold in the US).
As for your computer, I suspect the problem was your electricity, not the PSU, although I could be wrong. Some homes are really poorly wired up. A decent UPS will allow one to use a crap power supply. A very good power supply will give clean power no matter what, but it might die in the process if your power is bad out of the wall.
As a rule, buy a more expensive power supply. Few people need 850W or more, so it it is better to spend more money on a better quality lower wattage PSU. For example, for $100 one can buy a wonderful 500W PSU, but i would not trust any 850W at that price range unless it is open box (Microcenter is heaven for open box deals as idiots are constantly returning "broken" products they do not understand). As always, check Jonny Guru to see power supply reviews, although Tom's has gotten a lot better over the last few years.

SkipPeWow you sound like your trying to insult me. I have a UPS for my system. After the incident occurred the power supply didn't power up ever again. (note this happened within a year of purchase) And then it took me 2 hours of sitting on ThermalFAKE's holding line to try to even get a hold of anyone. After i got someone and asked for a replacement they hung up on me. The fact is they are a scumbag company that cheeps out on the products they produce.

YoshinoI did not mean to insult you, and if I did I apologize. That said, TT does not make PSU's. They simply re-brand other companies' products. I do not doubt you had terrible customer service, and that is a useful comment, but the PSU itself was make by an actual manufacturer. This is also the case for Corsair, Cooler Master, Antec, and many other enthusiast computer parts manufacturers with respect to power supplies. A Great Wall model XYZ is the same whether it is branded TT, Corsair, EVGA or Billy Bob's Computer Super Center.
With regards to Thermaltake being a scumbag company, you may be correct. That is a useful comment with an explanation of your experience. Thermaltake is nothing more than a reseller of PSU's, so their only value added comes from customer service and the pretty case aesthetics.
