unqualifiedopinionI know about the Tuya and also know about the Factory equipment version. However, the original OEM is not Factory Equipment. This is an original design from a pretty well known cloner called Dicoria. This knife was caller Maker 3 and was sold about a year or 2 before the Factory Equipment version and the original steel was S35VN instead of M390. So to my knowledge, Dicoria is the original OEM. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32653543818.html?spm=2114.12057483.0.0.f2ee17c99q5ojx Funny how some known brands use cloners factories to produce their knives, which btw I have absolutely no problem with, but it carcks me up when people bash cloners and then end up buying knives that are basically from them LOL!. Another example of this is CKF selling their Daboia, which is an original design from another known cloner, Kevin John, and his knife is called the Venom.

VipeXOh yeah, I remember that one. But in all fairness, that is the only design that they have done that was "heavily inspired" from a "known" brand.

method_burgerNo, the one pointed out by ViperX was a Factory Equipment knife that ressembles extremely the Giant Mouse, if looking very closely, there are some subtle differences but yeah, it's a big look-alike. The one on this drop sold by Tuya knife is basically the same knife that Factory Equipment started to sell about a year ago which is also the same knife that Dicoria (cloner with some original designs) was selling about 2 years ago. So the order in which they appeared in the market is Dicoria then Factory Equipment then Tuya. My guess is that all 3 models are made at the same factory.

bdpfi think we all need confirmation from giant mouse. if theyre getting a cut of the profit, i'm totally for it. if not... this needs to be taken down as a potential clone. sort of feels like the vdk thing, but with more steps.

unqualifiedopinionThe Factor Equipment knife's blade is 3.15". The Tuyaknife's blade is 3.6". Speaking of copycats, the Rike Knife Hummingbird's blade is only 1.5". Take a look at its blade profile, and you'll see why I brought it up.

bdpfI have the Shuriken from Tuya; bought it about a year ago. I think it'd been available for at least a year before that. Tuya did a run of like 250 of them and apparently still have some left from that run. I'd imagine some people who would have picked one up, opted for the Factor Equipment piece instead, or otherwise just steered away because they worried it was stolen. The way I understand it, Tuya worked with the design owner for the Shuriken, who also sold their designs to other companies. I guess it and the Talisman are the two designs Tuya's made that are also made by other people, because the designers have licensed its production with more than one company. I don't know that for sure, but it's something Dave Warren said in another thread here at Drop. For what it's worth it's a pretty good knife with a buttery flip and very comfy ergonomics.

reswrightMight be, and my timing in years might be wrong (I don't keep track), but I clearly remember seeing this knife at Dicoria first at least a year before the others. Then one day it was at FE, I was like hum.... Then later I saw it at Tuya, I was like humm.... Maybe it's like you said, the designer sold the design to several companies but Aliexpress and DHGate were the first platforms to showcase this knife.

bdpfI mean, it's hard to keep track of it all. I know Tuya's had it available for a while now but the design could have easily been elsewhere already. I only occasionally drop into places like AliExpress and DHgate, just to see what's what, so it doesn't necessarily mean anything that Tuya was the first place I ever saw the design - but it was the first place i saw it. I then saw it on Factor Eq about six months after I picked up mine... and was like 'wtf?' and started looking around and that was when I saw the Dave Warren comment about designs from designers that have licensed them to other companies.

unqualifiedopinionI've got a small Absolute in my car, it's cool and good. Grind on mine is a touch thicker than some, but no worse than Kizer's Envoy, still fine

reswrightYour right, the guy who designed it designed 2 knives for Tuya, Tuya then made a version and sold it to Factor, the designer never worked for Tuya, Kevin said he just asked him for a design, you can see the others were different sizes too, it’s not the same knife but same design, no one was ripped off, they are actually cousins. There is and never was any design made by Tuya without designers being paid, and agreeing to it. They use different newer designers now like myself and Michael Etorma. Tuya has a very good track record, all materials are tested all the time in the U.S so there is no worries on materials either, I guarantee that.
