Made to order in Japan, these penny loafers by u-Dot are designed by Takumi Inomata and made in his workshop by a small team of craftsmen. Inomata’s award-winning work with Japanese brands led him to launch a line of his own in 2013, and his shoes are just now capturing an international audience. Massdrop is proud to be among the first companies outside his home country to offer this celebrated footwear. Like Inomata’s other designs, the u-Dots feature a classic silhouette with playful touches, lending them a unique twist on the traditional loafer.
Note: As these shoes are made to order, they take about 2 months to be made. At checkout, you’ll have your choice of six different colors and seven different sizes, US 7 to 13. These loafers fit large - see below for sizing information.
Crafted from full-grain cow leather, the shoes feature a reverse design in which the smooth part of the leather faces inside the shoe. This not only creates an extremely comfortable insole but also gives the exterior a rough suede look that works well with the casual styles of summer and fall—think chino shorts and jeans. They’re made with side seams and, of course, the iconic strap across the saddle. Created with cork layers, the crepe hybrid sole is durable without being clunky.
Choosing a size: Half sizes are not available. As these loafers tend to run large, we advise sizing down to the nearest full size. For example, if you are a 9.5 on a Brannock device, you'll want to order a size 9 u-Dot penny loafer. If you're a 10 on a Brannock device, you might also wear a size 9, as long as you wear the loafers without thick socks.
“These shoes are natural leather and can be discolored by moisture, humidity, and wear. Please be careful wearing light-colored trousers and socks in rainy weather. Wearing dark trousers until decoloring has subsided is recommended. Be careful when walking in rain and snow, as shoes may be slippery. Please use a suitable cleaner for care of shoes."
