Can't get the lid on. Unable to use. Did anyone receive printed instructions for
  • Inserting the battery packs into the lantern. Which way is up for second battery pack? There's no spring contacts on the lid, body of the lamp, etc. for the top battery pack to make contact. I don't see a groove for the second battery pack to slide into.
  • Aligning the lid [once the second battery pack is in place] so that the lid will lie flat & engage the tabs & screw threads .
I hoped to use this for lighting during power outages or quakes. I am using EBL 10,000 MaH size D rechargeable NIMH batteries. The lantern lights up when switch is rotated with only one battery pack installed; so it would probably work if I could ever reassemble it. No clues from UCO Gear website- just scenic videos.

The lantern is sturdy and has a very useful and unique design. Very heavy with all six D-cells in place, would be best where it isn't carried a lot. Dimmer dial has a very cheap, "crunchy" feel to it and does not run smoothly. No recharge capability. Loading of batteries and their carriers is a bit cryptic - I would NOT want to try changing batteries in the dark. Color of light is natural and pleasant. Overall a very good "home camp" lantern, but not the best for trekking or ultra portability. A good design that needs a major update - for example, having both lithium rechargeable battery as well as the D-cell capability, and for heaven's sake put a decent quality dimmer control in it! Would have returned, but not worth the trouble/shipping expense.

I can't testify to the quality of the UCO Gear Sitka Lantern because I haven't actually used it. This is my MAJOR complaint- Massdrop advertised this UCO Gear Sitka Lantern as being the RECHARGEABLE SITKA+ model, NOT the "basic" SITKA model requiring six (6) "D" cell batteries. The "basic" SITKA does not have the "Northern (colored) Lights" feature and, only has one (1) USB outlet as opposed to the SITKA+'s two USB's. I blame Massdrop for this "bait and switch" or gross misrepresentation mostly but, I'm not eager to do business with Massdrop or UCO, the manufacturer of the Sitka Lantern and other products again. Even several of the "reviews" stated that it was the SITKA+ rechargeable model. IT WASN'T. I make exceptional note that Massdrop changed the OVERVIEW and SPECS AFTER my purchase. This isn't the first time by any means Massdrop has been accused of false advertising. Buyer beware!
