Ultralight & Spacious

At just 24 ounces, the CDT is the lightest backpack offered by Ultralight Adventure Equipment. This frameless bag boasts 3,370 cubic inches of total space and features six pockets, making it as suitable for a weekend getaway as it is for a 2,500-mile thru-hike. And while this Utah-based company is known for its ultralight outdoor gear, the CDT is the only frameless pack available through ULA.

Note: This drop is for the multicam or green CDT with medium torso, medium hipbelt, and J-style straps. The photos show the correct type of mesh on the front pocket, but the packs in this drop have a more bellowed design that will accommodate about twice the volume as the older design. This drop is limited to 35 multicam backpacks and 21 green backpacks.

Tough, Comfortable & Minimalist

Constructed from the company’s super-tough 210 Robic fabric, the CDT also offers a re-designed hip belt and contoured shoulder straps, both of which feature foam insulation for added comfort. Meanwhile, the interior foam sheet can easily be replaced with a sleeping pad to increase comfort and decrease weight. The pack also features a number of other removable amenities—hydration sleeve, internal stash pocket—to transform the CDT into a truly bare-bones, 19-ounce rucksack.

About ULA Equipment

The brainchild of long-distance hiker Brian Frankles, Ultralight Adventure Equipment was founded in 2001 with the goal of providing lightweight, durable, and comfortable gear to a burgeoning community of ultralight hikers.  It was nothing short of a success. By 2009, adherents of the ultralight ethos, such as Chris and Sally McMaster, found themselves on a 4-month waiting list for Frankles’s homespun gear. That’s when Frankles sold his business—to none other than the McMasters. The couple brought on sewing expert Rodney Tripp, a ULA customer himself, and soon the company was taking flight.

Today, Ultralight Adventure Equipment sells its wares to dealers around the world, even producing its own ULA 210 Robic fabric. Still, every product is made in-house at the Utah headquarters. But you won’t find ULA in stores. Available only through select dealers, the gear is manufactured on a limited-production basis to ensure that it’s as lightweight and durable as it was when it came from Frankles’s garage. To that end, every pack is PCT-ready and ensured for a lifetime by ULA’s warranty.

S and J Strap Styles

J style straps (photo, right) have a more traditional design, while the highly-curved S straps (photo, left) generally provide a more comfortable fit for females and short/stocky males. This drop is only for the J straps.
