I believe they are designed more as a replacement for the paper cups used at foot races. although the form of a cup is universally handy (see what i did just there? :), scrutinize your perceived needs for backpacking. They may not be what you imagine. Still a good deal!

Joined the Drop. I always see people with a bottom cut off a plastic water bottle to scoop water out of a shallow stream. Thought this might suffice for that purpose, plus a spare cup for coffee, etc.
Looks like a more cup-like version of Guyot Designs Squishy Bowl/Cup - I've been using those backpacking for years. Able to squeeze it into my kettle (where a Ti cup won't fit) along with my stove/fuel/etc. A little heavier than a similarly sized Ti cup, but easier to pack and has better heat insulation (less likely to burn your hands/lips with hot liquids) than Ti. Shape of this might be more top-heavy and likely to tip over than the Squishy Bowl/Cup, which are short and fat. Potential drawbacks are difficulty cleaning, lack of flame resistance, and retention of tastes/smells. Seems like a reasonable deal - might try them out.
