Am I the only one that is disappointed by the overall build quality? I mean taking it out of the box, it felt like some cheap chinese toy. Creeking when you pick it up, smelling kind of toxic, it just feels like a cheap replica of the IBM Model M, even says "Model M" on the bottom.
But I guess the pictures hinted that the quality of the plastic is not really up to other professionally made mechanical keyboards like KBC, Corsair or CMStorm. And then, of course, the price also indicates that this is not premium product.
The typing on the other hand feels GREAT! This is the most reliable typing experience I have had to date with very few typos, taking into consideration a lot of other mechanical keyboards.
Still, I do not really want to use it. My fingers hurt after typing on it for half a day almost constantly, and reading others having the same problem, I'd guess it has to do something with the materials used to manufacture this keyboard. Seems to be some kind of softener or chemical substance in the plastic. Also after extended typing the smell is getting more and more noticeable and the smell also tends to stick to the fingers after using it.
The typing feel is awesome, but using it over and extended period of time just feels unhealthy. I will not continue using it as keyboard, but just put it on a shelf treating it like a show piece. Therefor I can not recommend buying this keyboard.

skullbringerThat pain in your fingers is likely just fatigue skullbringer. The Model M has some of the heaviest switches you can get your hands on. It'll feel good in short bursts, but over time it could be tiring if you've not become accustom to keyboards with such spring force.
I highly doubt that chemicals in the keyboard are leaching into your fingers and poisoning you.

skullbringerIt's the Quality Standard which has picked up from products coming out of China which has now elevated them beyond the Q&A of the US of A.
The good thing is at least you've given some money towards the ONLY company manufacturing keyboards on your home soil.

skullbringerI agree with you on the build quality. Side by side with my old Model M, it was night and day difference. Thin, flexible case, poorly aligned legends on the caps, and of course, mine came with a defective switch/membrane issue. I still never heard a reply from Massdrop support. So I reached out to Unicomp to do a RMA directly. Disappointment all around.
