HertxzBizarrely they are wired-up differently to the jack. Some earbuds like SoundMagic have a little switch so they work on both platforms. I think it affects the button clicks for play, pause etc?
HertxzAs far as I’m aware it’s just a connector difference. Android can have either USB-C or can just have a 3.5 mm headphone jack. iPhone has to have lightning so it fits in the port
Hertxz3.5mm (with mic) jacks use "rings" for different channels. Historically, everything used the order of: Left-Right-Ground-Mic , while Apple used L-R-M-G (switching ground and mic). That also continued with Android, so you had this difference where Android earbud mics didn't work on iOS and vice versa. In recent years Android and others changed their standard to L-R-M-G, matching Apple. (TRRS standards on Wikipedia)
Not sure why there's a distinction here, all of the big phone makers now use the same TRRS standard so there shouldn't be an incompatibility at all. Maybe smaller, lower-end makers still use L-R-G-M.
