lobstronomosityI refresh the buys daily, I'm addicted to massdrop and can't stop. They've got to quit putting keyboards up here in the $100 range, because I'm going to keep buying them until I have a room full of the things.
How do the Quiet Pro switches compare to Mx clears in sound and feel, I know they are lighter but I want to know the diference in tactileness and how loud they both can be
TeddI have the Quiet Click switches on my V60, I also have a few boards with MX Clears. The Matias switches are more tactile, by a decent amount, than MX Clears. They also (at least on this board) have no obvious ping, which is something I can't say for the CODE I have with Clears. The V60 with the QC switches is pretty quiet over all. By the sound you still know it is mechanical, but it isn't louder than your average rubber dome board. I type with it in a very quiet office setting and no one around me has any complaints.
Of note though, the mounting holes are all on the bottom of the board, there is no access to the screw holes through the top of the plate. So if you were inclined to put this in another 60% case, you will have to get a little creative when securing it.
If it weren't for the fact that *good* keycaps are so hard to come by for ALPS/Matias switches, this would probably be my favorite switch, along with the Matias Click switches.
Seems both the "pro" and "linear" switches are branded as Quiet when you're attempting to check out - however for the front printed vintage option it just says "Quiet"; would that be for the pro or the linears? Pretty relevant information.
Edit: or would it be both and one of them has just been mistakenly omitted?
This is just a rebranded Vortex Pok3r with different switches, isn't it? The bottom looks exactly like my CODE 60% (which is another rebranded Pok3r) and even has the same dip switches.
denickI love it. It's my first mechanical. The manual was very helpful in configuring the dip switches and explaining the extra features and layers.
One tip: I changed the bottom row on the right to be "alt, command, fn, ctrl". So, when I engage fn+enter to make the bottom right corner arrow keys, I have to use the LEFT fn + enter to disengage it. That's because the right fn gets remapped to down.
I remember reading a review that said that feature didn't work with some dip switch configs but I haven't had a problem.
"similar feeling to mx"
please no
what I would like is 55 gram weighting and lubed sliders like old REAL blue ALPS, so maybe I can feel something similar
well I guess I will know when it comes at my door
I'm just going to throw my two cents in to say THIS IS THE BEST KEYBOARD.
The Quiet Clicks are lovely for quiet-tactile keys. Much better than Cherry MX browns—no comparison really.
The Clickies are THE BEST TACTILE SWITCHES AVAILABLE. The right sound. The right pressure. Everything about them. They clack more than click.
I'd buy another if I didn't have 2 already.
Also, I prefer the cursor key layout and options to any programmable keyboard. They are exactly where they should be for easy right hand action—and if holding down FN (I use the key immediately to the right of the space for that) is too much, you can set the whole corner cluster to operate as arrow keys with a function-return. Which is great when you really need them.
For a non-proigrammable keyboard, the dip switches give you all of the options you need (except one, for which I use Karabiner Elements on the Mac to re-map: the "Application" key should be an "Option" key).
It's great on Mac and PC.
One note: it's not technically NKRO—but 7 keys that rollover. This means if you hold down six keys and press an seventh, the first key you hit releases—so it always remembers the order of the keypresses even when you press more than it can register at a time.
Cherry MX Brown's aren't "good" tactile switches, but they are, technically, tactile switches.
Compared to Blue Switches, the Quiet Clicks have an Alps feel, meaning the keys wobble a bit on the pegs (which I love). They feel like what they are: Matias Tactile Switches with a lot of dampeners. They are soft and cushy—but still have a tactile 'bump' near the top of the stroke. Much higher activation point than Cherry's of any kind.
I've used Cherry Blues, Browns, Blacks, and Reds. Not Clears, Grays, or Zeals.
The weighting of the Matias switches are as light as the Blues or Browns—much lighter than the Grays, Clears, or Greens. Not sure about Zeal.
I have used original Alps too—and that's what they feel most like. Just cushioned at the bottom of the stroke and dampened at the top—so it's very quiet—Quieter than any non-dampened Cherry MX switch—or any switch that bottoms out. The Quiet Clicks land in a softish bed.
The clicks are solid plastic to plastic and feel lovely. Really clacky. Like the ALPS switches on the Mac Plus, somewhat.
kmaxatI might have found a solution to the chattering issue:
I just disassembled my V60 because two keys were chattering. (you can remove the top of Matias/ALPS switches without desoldering or unmounting the switch from the plate:
)
I discovered that the Quiet Pros were apparently lubricated by KBP using a transparent grease. It seems like too much of this grease was applied to the chattering switches, it made contact with the copper plates inside the switch. I removed the grease, cleaned the copper contacts and they are no longer chattering!
