So these are super pricy, are there any other similarly sized alternatives with a similar lid to buy anywhere? In steel would probs be just fine too, if the price is lower.

MrJenssenVargo used to make a stainless steel version of the original BOT, which I have and I love, though toting the pot grabber around to handle this when hot is a bit of a pain - especially when you need a substantial one for a pot this size full of water. Maybe I'll sell you my steel one (no handle) and I'll buy this one. Lot of $$ because its a lot of titanium, but seems like a really good deal to me compared to what they've been asking for the original version here. There are plenty of less expensive large pots out there, even titanium ones, but nothing seals like this one for multipurpose use. In fact, I suspect this would be reasonable to use as a tiny bear resistant container, depending on what food you're carrying and for how long.

MrJenssenIt's worth looking at YouTuber Darwin's review of the Vargo BOT. He was given one for free and used it extensively. The benefits were cold soaking and being able to use it for cooking. In the end he reverted back to his Talenti plastic ice cream container because it was more convenient. He also cited the threads on the BOT being problematic. I carry a Toaks titanium pot, a pocket rocket stove and the Talenti for cold soaking. Works for me and is lots cheaper. If I had $90 floating around I probably would try the BOT but what I have works fine.

PritchI saw that video, he also mentioned pressure sealing. But the Talenti cup isn't exactly suitable for putting on a stove. The nice thing about something like the Vargo bot is that it works with both. But a hundred bucks for a solution that is flawed in several regards, is kinda steep.

MrJenssenI fail to see what's flawed about this BOT? Remember, I have one (steel). Lots of folks spend $125+ on a titanium stove/burner, and that's because the value is there for them. Wouldn't be for me, but that doesn't make that particular product flawed. As far as I know, there are no other pots with a sealing lid like this, and the basic fact with any titanium product is that the more mass of the product, the more $$ the product must necessarily be. Again, plenty of other titanium pots out there for less, which makes this one a niche product for someone looking for multiuse as a bottle.

scopeI don't own the Bot myself, but complaints from a lot of owners include that they pressure seal when the altitude changes a lot (up and down mountainsides), so the lid becomes basically impossible to get off unless you break it open. Another issue mentioned by a lot of people is the threads.

MrJenssenI heard some of that before I bought mine. Could it be a titanium vs steel thing? Maybe. No threads issue for me. When I use it as a bottle, its typically in camp, so I'm not hiking any elevation change with it sealed. Normally its closed with stove stuff, etc., inside but not as tight as I might be inclined to do if full of water. It has value there for me as a potential bottle backup if needed, but I've not really used it for that while hiking. I could see it being hard to open at times given that its just wide enough to be hard to grip firmly. A rubber lid remover from the kitchen might be something to take along if concerned about that.

scopeA steel mug with a screw lid like that could possibly also expand due to the heat, so much that the lid could get stuck in the threads too, so maybe that is why there are no cheaper steel alternatives to the Bot.

MrJenssenYou mean heat of the day, right, not heated from stove? I wouldn't ever cook with it sealed. When flipped over, the top makes a nice lid for cooking.
