So the vargo dig dig tool does exactly what you needed to do when you need to do your business in the woods. The other nice features on it is it can be an absolutely bomb proof tent stake when you need a little more anchor-age during a windy night. The serrations on the side can be useful if you need an impromptu tool for cutting. My only caution would be make sure that you store it in your pack in a way that those same serrations won't damage either your gear or the pack itself. Great piece of kit!
I generally camp in heavily wooded areas. It's great for digging cat holes through a mass of roots with the saw-tooth edges. Of course you have to be careful packing it so you don't damage any equipment.
Does the job. Easy on the hands. Works well in tough soil with roots and grasses. Haven't had to use it as a tent stake yet but it looks like it would perform that job as well. Need to take care in stowing it to ensure that the point and teeth do not damage other gear.
Digs effective. Bit hard on the bare hand, so there’s another use for a bandana or buff. Narrow profile makes it more convenient to carry. As a stake it has a different application than a typical nail style stake. Handy in lose ground.
EdcarI'd say, very hard on the hands. The edges are not rounded. But there's an easy fix: dip the tool (about the top third) in tool dip, which will coat it with nice soft plastic that's colored, too. You can drill out the hole when it's dry. A few dips in the tool dip will give you a cushion that will eliminate the discomfort.
