Question: aren't Gaterons a China copy of Cherry switches, so shouldn't this keyboard, with the Gaterons configuration of course, be significantly cheaper?
wakawakaThat's debatable, as being a copy doesn't automatically equal cheaper manufacturing costs. However that being said there are many that believe the Gaterons are actually an improvement over Cherry switches and don't have the same scratchy feeling, similar to lubed cherry switches. Supposedly they're a bit smoother.
wakawakaAlso worth noting, I read somewhere that these are produced by the same people as Leopold Keyboards, so they are supposedly very high quality. Though I cannot confirm or deny this, unfortunately.
wakawakaThey're a copy to a certain extent, in that they have similar actuation force, and the colors match for what you would expect (blue, brown, etc.), but they're very well-made switches. I've heard others say that they're smoother than Cherry switches, and based on my VA87MR that I just received, I agree. They're very sturdy, and don't feel like copies at all in terms of quality. I actually think they wobble less and feel nicer than Cherry switches.
