I was under impression that they place an order once the drop is over, and order the exact quantity. Unless somebody returned something and I've gotten a used keyboard... which would be deceitful to say the least

The exact quantity minus whatever Massdrop has in stock in their warehouse.
From what I've read, the excess stock is a result of non-payments from previous drops, or Massdrop simply ordering extras to meet MOQ. But they could be returned items as well, who knows.

Surely there's a law against that? Unless Massdrop is really that shady? *Raises pitchforks*
In all seriousness they're probably the extras from the last drop which otherwise go on sale in the monthly bazaar.

Personally I don't see what the big deal is. If I purchased a Linear board and opened the packaging only to find out it has Tactile switches, I'd definitely be returning it. And I wouldn't have anything against Massdrop if they tried to sell it to somebody else either.

Yep, usually overstock or cancelled orders. It's illegal to sell returned items as new and we don't do that.

Out of curiosity, what *do* you guys do with returned opened items? I know Amazon puts them in a warehouse for a few years and then returns them to the manufacturer.

They stated a few pages back that it's illegal for them to resell the opened returns. I would assume it's something similar with a return to vendor
