From what I can tell, tubular knit shirts are cheaper to make once you have the equipment. Some people complain that they twist more. Others complain that the tube shape means that they don't taper toward the bottom, which makes a slim fit impossible in the bottom half of the shirt. That said, tubular knit designer t-shirts seem to be very hot now, and they almost always cost more than this, often about 2x as much. I think they're supposed to evoke the era when the US was the world center of factory mass-production.
